I’ve been struggling with anger issues, and only recently I’ve decided to reach out about it, I’ve had many friendships end over one petty argument I’ve blown way out of proportion in a lot of online forums between 2022-2024, I’m worried about hurting people verbally both online and in-person, whenever I have an outburst, I feel like I’m a passenger in my body as this terrifying out of control side of me takes over in the driver’s seat, it’s been a massive hindrance on my mental health, cognitive functions and communication skills since my early teen years
Any coping strategies are welcome

Hi there,
Thank you so much for posting and being so honest about your struggles with anger. It takes a lot of strength to speak openly about something that’s so often misunderstood. Reaching out for support shows insight and a genuine desire to grow, which are both powerful starting points.
It sounds like you’ve been carrying this for a long time, and that these outbursts are not only distressing in the moment, but leave you feeling disconnected from yourself and the people around you. That “passenger” feeling you described is something others experience too, especially when big emotions take over faster than we can respond to them.
You’re not alone in this. A lot of people struggle with emotional regulation, especially when there's a history of unresolved stress or trauma behind it. It might help to explore support through a professional who can work with you on building grounding techniques and communication strategies.
If access to therapy is a barrier, Beyond Blue offers free support via 1300 22 4636 or online at https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support, they can help you talk through how you’re feeling and what your next steps might be.
You deserve support, and things can improve. Please keep talking, we’re really glad you reached out here.
Warmly,
Sophie M
