I work with a very aggressive team member. He has yelled at me for simple requests and it all started with me being uncomfortable with physical contact.I have reported his behaviour.I am now expected to discuss with HR.He has been moved on through various departments due to his behaviour.I am concerned that my position will be at risk because I am causing a drama by complaining

Hi Ruby 21

im sorry you are going thru this ,  this is not acceptable in any workplace and if you are suffering and scared and feel your work is not handling this coworker effectively you should report them to work safe any form of abuse in the workplace is illegal. You should also report your co workers behaviour to the police especially if they were physically aggressive with you . You have a right to complain to your boss without fear of being terminated. You are doing nothing wrong by wanting to be safe at work

Hi Ruby,

I hope your workplace supports you. It’s really disappointing in Australia that we have workplace managers and HR departments that do not take abuse seriously. It is not your fault if you are the one being abused by him and you deserve the support of your HR. I understand your fear of losing your job or being demoted. I hope that never happens to you. Does your workplace have an employee assistance program? A structured program may help you to resolve this issue.

Hi there,

Thanks for your post in opening up about this tough situation. It's not easy.

I'm sorry about this abusive coworker at your workplace. It's absolutely not ok to treat someone like that, and just know that it's never your fault. Good on you for reporting his behaviour, you did the right thing. I hope HR will deal with this appropriately to ensure it doesn't happen again. I really don't think you will lose your position for complaining because it's not drama, it's abuse and needs to be reported. I hope you speak to your manager too about your concerns if you haven't already and hopefully it will be warmly received.

Take care,
