Hi Everyone and especially new posters or anyone reading the Beyond Blue Forums too!
This may seem unimportant to many but there is a reason for this thread. I have had depression and anxiety for many years and I found this self esteem/confidence check invaluable when I was researching why I was so nervous and panicky....before I was diagnosed and during...
How do you respond to a compliment? If someone says well done! or good on you! Or compliments you for qualities you have....Do You...
- Pass the compliment off and say....oh no...'I'm not really that good.. etc etc'
- Ignore the compliment and struggle for words...
- Reflect the compliment away and 'handball' a compliment back...
- Or say 'thankyou'
A few years ago I had a really hard time with dealing with compliments. This thread is not a 'test' in anyway....It is just a 'self check' that may help some people find a little peace and self awareness where low self confidence/esteem/worth is an issue
The answer is number 4....What number would you have chosen? Your true/heartfelt thoughts on this would be a great help on how you respond to a compliment
Thankyou for taking the time to read my post
Kind Thoughts
Paul

Hello Dear Paul, Quirky and everyone….🤗🤗..
I have done 1,2,3 and now I’m doing 4…
I realised that doing 1,2 or 3 is really not nice and could hurt the person giving you a compliment….
It’s so easy for people to overlook our achievements or hard work we do in our jobs or when we’re helping family and friends….it really is nice for someone to acknowledge all the hard work/help we have given them….they compliment or thank us for doing it…..I feel by thanking them, it also makes them feel good about themselves….by not accepting their compliment, we are not only hurting ourselves but also the person who is trying to say to us…you done well, I’m grateful for your help etc…
It is so easy for people to put us down, tell us our faults, tell us when we make a mistake, those times upsets us a lot..makes us feel worthless, unwanted, takes away our self esteem…more then not causing a depressive cycle or self hate…..So when a person compliments us on a job well done, an achievement we succeeded with or any other thing that we made someone feel proud of us…They are doing so to let us know that…that they are grateful and/or proud of us….by accepting that commitment you not only make them and their opinion feel valued to you…you also feel pretty good within yourself because they took the time to tell you how they feel about you…
My care, love and hugs everyone…🦋💕🤗.
Grandy..
