For the last year I’ve been struggling mentally but lately i feel like it’s getting worse, i have recently gone off birth control as well. My anxiety is through the roof and i feel sad or ‘numb’ to feelings a lot of the time which is not usual for me. This has severely impacted my relationship with my partner and my social life. I feel detached from my partner and sometimes don’t feel any connection or emotions towards him but I know i love him. My symptoms include;
Mood swings - anger and sadness
Extremely insecure
Overwhelmed easily
Avoid social gatherings
Numbness of feelings
Waves of emotion towards my partner (loss of interest)
im considering going on anti depressants or anti anxiety medication as I don’t feel like myself at all and I can’t deal with it anymore and I don’t want to lose my relationship- please tell me I’m not alone experiencing this

Hello and a warm welcome to the forums. Thank you for reaching out here and sharing your story. Really sorry to hear you are going through these challenges but please remember you are not alone.
Changes to your mood is pretty common and can happen once you go off taking birth control as your body stops relying on the hormones you were taking, but these symptoms are temporary and usually go away after some time.
Self-care like regular exercise, eating healthy is extremely important at this time.
It would be really beneficial to talk to your GP or a mental health professional about how you are feeling so they can guide you with proper treatment.
Hope you feel better. I am here to listen and support if you want to talk more...
Take care

Hey there,
Thank you for finding us here on the forums and I am grateful for your openness. I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through, I have been there myself before feeling extremely anxious and empty. Please know you are not alone, trust me, there are countless people out there also struggling.
I would also like to suggest you speak to your GP to figure out if these intense feelings and anxiety are due to coming off birth control, or if there is some other root cause there needs to be dealt with. I think once you get to the bottom of it, you will get the right treatment/support to help you better cope and get through this. It’s ok to feel tired in what you’re going through right now. It’s a lot.
Prioritise taking care of yourself today and try to engage in the things that you like-it could just be something simple as watching a movie. Secondly, have a chat to your partner if you’re comfortable about what you are currently dealing with and I hope they will respond warmly and understand.
You are more than welcome to keep chatting here, we’re here for you. Sending love your way 🤗

The warmest of welcomes to you as such an incredibly challenging time in your life.
As a 55yo gal and having faced a variety of mental and emotional challenges over the years, I've found it pays to find people who'll wonder with me, as to what I'm feeling and why I'm feeling it. While I used to believe I was 'broken' in some way, while not being as calm or as happy as everyone else, I discovered the truth to involve the ability to sense something stressful or depressing going on. What that something is isn't always obvious at times. The person or people we find to wonder with us are basically joining us in some much needed detective work. The question becomes 'Which detective will I employ to help solve the mystery, when it comes to what the heck is going on?'.
A GP will look for clues that relate to possible physical and mental issues. After running some routine blood tests that can possibly relate to a variety of physical issues, they can often rule out the usual suspects regarding significant energy shifts (iron, b12, thyroid issues etc). They may then consider a specialist detective. A specialist could include a psychologist, an endocrinologist or someone else who may have some ideas, when it comes to getting to the bottom of what could be causing highs and lows (intense spikes and lows).
Could it be in our nature to sense a whole stack of stuff and, for some reason, we've gone into super sensitive mode (sensing on a whole other level)? Take social anxiety for example, something I can relate to. If I have a heightened sensitivity to a lack of confidence in carrying conversations, too much noise, too many people, a lack of familiar surroundings, inner dialogue etc, I'll feel it all through my nervous system. While I could shift my chemistry significantly and mask all that or turn the volume down on it with alcohol, I tend not to do that these days. Btw, I did that through the whole of my 20s. The question remains 'Why are we feeling a heightened sensitivity or a concerning lack of it on occasion?'. In other words, 'Why am I feeling/sensing at full volume or feeling/sensing absolutely nothing at all?'. Is it chemistry, biology, psychology or even nature involved to various degrees? Which detective to choose?
