EMDR

I’ve started EMDR please tell me it gets easier? It’s just causing more anxiety at the moment but I physically cannot tell my psych how I feel about it. The traumatic memories are too hard to relive.

Hello Summer Charm,

I have not gone through EMDR, but I'm sorry to hear it is causing more anxiety and you feel like you can't relive the traumatic memories.

I understand it can be really hard to tell your psych about something going wrong, and I'm sad to hear that. Is there any way you can communicate it otherwise, perhaps by writing a note or a text? Or can you ask someone else to help?

If it is causing you so much stress, it is likely important that your psych knows.

Hey Summer Charm,

I am really sorry to hear you are feeling so much distress. I can't imagine what you are going through right now. EMDR can be exhausting and painful, but many people do find it useful long-term. As mentioned above, it is really important that your therapist knows how you are feeling, especially as it sounds like you are really struggling. I would encourage you to tell them in a way that feels safe and okay for you - be it email, writing or phone or with the assistance of a loved one or someone you feel comfortable to disclose to. If your therapist knows more from your perspective how you are going and what you are experiencing, they may be able to better assist you and modify therapy in a way that you are able to feel less overwhelmed.

Take care. Please feel free to let us know how you go.
