This bipolar life

Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.

Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.

Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.

Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.

Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope

Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.

Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.

I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!

Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.

So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.

I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!

Love

This is something that really annoys me, last Saturday night we went out and had a wonderful night ( no alcohol or anything ) . Sunday woke up and felt so low and carried through to Monday. Came home at lunch time relaxed had a good nights sleep. Then Tuesday I felt fine. Apart from being tired which is normal with what I'm trying to achieve.

It's frustrating not knowing how you are going to be tomorrow and if it's low how long it will last. I'm okay now but just thought I'd share my experience of earlier in the week.

I want to get on with my life, bipolar really sucks.

Issi

I understand Issi. I'm waiting for the pms monster at the moment. I'm wondering if it's worse in bipolar ladies. I Will be taking meds this time for the pms duration as well.

Are you still going out to garden? Is there still some sunshine forecast? I find sun helps me lots. I'm a lizard lol.

Take care of u!!

Greetings to everyone

I am wondering if bipolar gets worse as you age- there is not much research I could find. It was more about people getting bipolar in old age not about whether it gets worse with age. I may have dementia and bipolar in my old age what fun!!

Quirky

Unfortunately no gardening for me this past weekend, but a few assignments done and some family time yesterday.

Quirky, I have no idea about bipolar, dementia and ageing. Maybe that's one for your doctor as maybe the dementia part depends on family history.

Still waiting on the warmer spring weather, really don't like the cold and rainy weather.

Issi, I get what you mean. It really sucks when there are no apparent triggers to a low mood, and it just appears and there's no indication of how long it'll stay. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a timer or something? Velvet, it could be worse in women, I suppose, because that time of the month can bring with it mood swings and such, so it'd make sense, right? Not sure, though. Hopefully you two are doing well. Quirky, not sure about that, either. Like Isis said, probably a question for you doctor. Hope you're doing well, too. ❤️

I've been alright. Not great, but ... alright. There's perhaps a low mood coming, it kinda feels that way. I don't want to go to work tomorrow and it's not even 2:30 PM the day before, so that's never a good sign. Hopefully it changes, though. I'm just a bit tired. I've been exercising a lot more, though, which is good. I guess I'm just a bit lonely.

Hi everyone,

I am just dropping by seeing how everyone is.

Looks quiet in here.Hope everyone is okay.

Lady, I hope you still alright.

I am ok just wish I was not always tired and am a restless sleeper.

Quirky

I've just had a post fest on other threads. I'm awake. Can't sleep. Anxiety. ☹️

Yeah, I'm okay, thank you quirky. :3

I'm sorry to hear that you're tired and a restless sleeper. Have you ever tried Malatonin? It's good. And velvet, that's no good at all. I hope you're feeling better. 😞

I haven't been doing a whole heap. Just went out with the family yesterday, had lunch for my grandpa's birthday. Happy 83rd!

Lady

thanks for asking and I have. Tried Melatonin but did not help. Alas I have other physical problems that wake me up,

I have lived with this most of my life so am ok.

Waves to everyone,

Quirky

Hi Quirky, Lady and Velvet (and everyone else it's you seem to be active more often)

I'm ok busy with Tafe and assignments before end of term. As it's been 6 weeks since tms I am really starting to down, but on the plus side I go in next week, and learnt that maybe 5 weeks is my limit. No tafe today so still in bed, enjoying catching up on Facebook, on here and might read a little. Before I need to face the real world of grocery 🛒 and house work.

Hope everyone is as well as they can be
