This bipolar life

Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.

Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.

Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.

Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.

Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope

Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.

Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.

I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!

Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.

So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.

I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!

Love

Hey, everyone

I'm sorry to see some struggles here, that's no good at all. It's understandable that there be some difficulty in accepting moods. I mean, who wants to accept something negative? I think it's important we allow our feelings about that, because it's not really healthy to bottle up feelings, but also try to not let them be in the driver's seat and direct your feelings towards yourself, you know? Which is difficult, yeah, but like Isssi said, they are days we should try hard to be kind to ourselves. Maybe that's not acceptance, but it's something.

Hey, here's a piece of good news: my sister has revealed the gender of her bubba to everyone, so I reckon it's high time I tell you all. I'm going to have a nephew! Everything is going really well, he's healthy and all. I can't wait to meet him. :3

Hey Lady thats wonderful a nephew to love and cuddle.

The forum looks like it's been very quiet, I know I haven't been on for a few days. Getting used to full time Tafe, being mum kids(14&17) and managing to stay well. I must admit apart from the house work I'm doing pretty well, just a little tired.

I realize I've said this a few times, but it is so important to have your GP, Psychiatrist and Councillor to work together.

Hopefully everyone has a good weekend

I'm gonna be the cool aunt. Even though I'm not cool, I can trick him into thinking I am. He knows no better! 😛

Glad to hear you've been doing well, especially with everything you have on your plate. That's awesome! And yes, it is very important, you're absolutely right.

I myself have been doing fine. Went out for Father's Day yesterday with the family, which was nice. It was a lovely day weather wise, too. :3

Coolest aunt EVER !

😄

Hello to everyone,

just saying hello.

Tell me windy days seem to make people more irritable. When I was teaching I did not like windy days as students would play up.

I can relate with that, I was a scout leader for a while and on windy days the boys were more ratty than usually.

I'm not sure why, but windy days do effect kids and probably adults as well.

I have 2 days off Tafe which is wonderful, but still have washing (I cheat with ironing just before they are dry I put them in the dryer for 5 mins and hang then up) and shopping to do. But then I'll have the weekend to spend with the family.

Hope everyone is feeling ok, and hope to hear from you soon

Hahah, aww thanks, people! I'll try my best to be the coolest.

Not much to report on really, just been working and exercising more, which is good. Also regular sleep schedule, I'm getting one. Good times!

Hope everyone is doing alright and that windy weather isn't being too much of a pain.

The weekend we are meant to get a little bit of sunshine, I can get out into the juggle and make it look like a front yard slightly.

Seconded Issi ! 😄
