Taking antidepressents for the first time tomorrow morning.

Hi,

Im not really sure why im posting this but Im feeling really unsure about taking medication tomorrow. I have had depression for about 7 years, but at the beginning my mum thought i was too young (i was 12-13), and its only now that I have finally decided that I need something else to help as I cant seem to make myself happy on my own.
I am really hopefull for what the antidepressents will do, but I am also really worried. My father has bipolar, and I am really worried that by taking them, it could trigger it in me. I dont have bipolar my self, but due to the genetic predisposition to it and the increased chance of getting it as my dad has it, im really worried that this might be enough to set it off.
As much as I want to be happy, if it risked me going through what he has gone through and put us through over the years, I wouldnt do it.

Sorry, im not really sure what the point of this was, I think I just wanted to vent a little bit.

hey thats actually a really common side effect of alot of ADs. if it gets too much or is affecting you just ask if your gp can prescribe some anti-nausea tablets 🙂

sometimes it a matter of getting them into the system first but that option is always there for you too.

its good your being optomisitc 🙂

are you seeing a psychologist as well? or just your gp? sorry im not up to speed with your supports...

Hi cesca

yeah my friend is going through a fair bit but it's more she got a new job 5 months ago and since then I really haven't heard from her much or seen her.

Yeah ive been reading my studie today to try and keep myself busy a little bit.

sorry I completely forgot how to ask how your medication was going, I feel really bad now. I was sick for the first week or so when I went on my medication it gets better though. I'm glad your feeling better about them now, they will probably take a while to kick in but once they do they really do help.

thinking of you

starting new - yea my gp said that it was a pretty common side effect so i was expecting it! its not that bad at the moment and i was told it often goes away a bit after a week or so once your body is used to the medication so i (hopefully) wont be nauseous for much longer
no thats fine! ask away. I am seeing my gp but I also booked in recently to go and see a psychologist for next week. I used to see her when i was younger but havent been for a few years so will be interesting going back. I definitely need to and dont know why its taken me so long to call up and book an appointment, but atleast ive done it now!

pysis - its always hard with new jobs, cause it can be hard to find time that you are both free in but hopefully once it settles down she will get back in contact with you again. until then, im sure there are a lot of people on the forums (including me) that are here to talk
No thats fine! I thought i would get a few more of the side effects so im pretty fortunate to only really have the nausea so i've got nothing to complain about! thanks, yea im hoping in a few weeks i do start to notice differences

Yeah she's got 4 kids as well so when she's home she dosent want to talk to anyone, but I worry about her to which dosent help at all.

yeah the forums have been good, I'm glad that you don't mind talking to me.

Lim sure in a few weeks you will start to notice a difference mine didn't really kick in for about a month and a bit but imthink most people see results sooner.

i have my own thread if you want to check it out at some point it's new and not sure what to do in young people.

yeah it is pretty commmon. im glad you dont have it too bad but jsut remember to speak to your gp about it, dont be afraid to speak up about these things as there is things that can be done to reduce nausea.

im glad your seeing your gp, dont worry about how long it took to rebook in to see a psychologist it only matters that you have booked in 🙂

i hope the session goes well for you, keep us updated

Pysis - thats so difficult! im sure she appreciates how much you worry about her and care for her, try to give it time and hopefully it will improve

of course i dont mind! im always here if you need to talk
Yes im hoping i will in a few weeks! i feel like it has helped already these first few days but thats more that its helping me to be more positive

I will have a look at the thread now, thanks!
