I don't know any more where to put a new thread if I make one, or which ones to join in. I always used Anxiety because that is my major condition but that has been relatively under control lately - I feel Depressed today - but I don't qualify for the topics there either. I'm depressed mainly because there doesn't seem a place for me. I love some of the threads and personal thoughts for example in Staying Well, but I can't join in there, because I don't have any tips for Staying Well.
I tend to have almost paranoid thoughts through over-thinking "problems" that I would like to talk over but don't know where to talk them over before they reach the paranoid stage...I want to avoid that. I join in the Social threads saying light hearted jokey things because thats the only place I seem to belong.
I dwell on any problems my adult sons have in various aspects of their life and want to "fix things for them" - our relationship is very loving and close though - they are wonderful to me - so there is no real "problem" with my relationship with them....so I don't seem to belong in the "relationships, family" section either do I?
I worry about them all the time - when I tried to express this on forum I think it was misconstrued that I had "empty nest syndrome" - trying to adapt to my sons' leaving home....No, that's not it...they've been gone for years and years...I am a grandmother.
I liked the Getting to Know You, or is it Me? thread very much - but have been given suggestions how to start my own thread and what section to use etc and get the feeling I'm being steered away from there too.
So I am still confused. I don't feel particularly anxious today, so this shouldn't even be in Anxiety! Do you see my dilemma?
In fact the more I write the more I feel like crying - I don't know where to go next.

Dear Croix....What a coincidence...I. was just this minute considering writing down the relevant points I plan on saying, and you suggest just that! Ah..Great Minds Think Alike. (to divert a minute, who originally said that old quote...you of all people must know!!)
Just a question on another matter someone might know the answer...re laptops once they reach 10 years old? An acquaintance only , friend of a friend, hardly know him but he is apparently very knowledgeable about technology devices etc....was briefly on my laptop and found it was 10 years old....he said as he rested his forearms on it as he typed he felt slight tingling....Then he terrified me when he was quite definite in warning me the battery in it could explode any time of day or night, burn my place down, killing me etc....similar to those fires which are occurring due to batteries exploding in e-scooters in people's homes......am I in imminent danger? Does this risk increase if my laptop is 10 years old? what do I do now....if anything. Or was this fellow mistaken?
I asked if I should always turn it off at the wall socket every night as well as shutting the laptop down and he said it would make no difference.....that I was sitting on a time bomb .....your opinions please? thanks folks....

Hello Moon,
I googled about old laptop & their batteries. From what I could find laptop batteries do deteriorate with age & old batteries (10+ years) are prone to failure. It is possible to have the battery replaced if you wish to keep using that laptop. Thank you for asking this as I have a couple of old laptops that I am now going to have the batteries replaced in. I had not thought them an issue if not in use or being charged, but it appears they may be. **** disclaimer - this info is just from me doing a google search. It might be worth ringing a local PC repair place & asking them.

Dear Moon~
It is a sensible approach, and one I use myself, particularly as not all GPs are that good at note taking, and as I tend to have different GPs within the same medical center from time to time, having things down in black and white helps continuity.
Flippers crossed your eloquence bears fruit.
Carl Theodor von Unlanski’s biography The woful history of the unfortunate Eudoxia, 1816: seems to be one of the earlier examples of the phrase "great minds think alike" though there are other views on this . Prior to that the same sentiment has been expressed using different words. (Bet you're sorry you asked 😴
Now bear in mind the next section comes from a walrus. I've been using laptops, mainly Len*** and M** since they first came out, and while I would agree that any 10 year old battery will not hold its charge for as long as when new I have never had anything untoward happen .
When the length of time the can be used unplugged from the main power reaches an unacceptable short level I've had the battery replaced - always the the same brand and model by a dealer.
If your laptop is 10+ years old I'd suggest you get it serviced by an authorized dealer and at the same time see if the battery needs to be replaced. Then you will not have anything to worry about.
Mind you this can be quite an expensive exercise, however if you are used to the software and operation of your laptop it may be worth it so you do not have to start again in unfamiliar territory and buy new software. It is also more likely to have a cd/dvd player, many modern ones do not.
My most modern laptop is 7 years old and has had the battery replaced once. My next oldest is 14 years old, not very modern but runs Win 10 and does the jobs I want it to. The battery has never been replaced as I leave it plugged in most of the time.
I think it is more a question of your peace of mind than any technical issue that might make you look into the matter.

Croix and Paws....I just remembered...(memory not as sharp). The laptop I've been using for about 2 years came from my son and his lady. I was having trouble with my ancient desktop and he said he thought they had a laptop (very well known expensive brand) in a cupboard somewhere doing nothing and I was delighted when they posted it to me...its been wonderful and I've been so grateful to get it for zero $.....AND....I recall now he said before posting it "we will have to take the battery out" so I took it straight in to the Computer Specialists for that brand to get it user ready...(it cost quite a substantial amount)...so.....I am assuming they put in a brand new battery and I should have nothing to worry about, despite the laptop being 10 years old! (why didn't this cross my mind immediately I wonder....of course that guy who gave me the dire warnings assumed I had bought it in 2014. anyway I am still breathing...for now. thank you for advice....

Dear Moon~
You were very farsighted in getting that laptop overhauled, and now you will have to find something else to worry about:)

Croix...I will ignore that cutting reference to my "finding something else to worry about"...phffft!
I had my "medication review" couple days ago..nothing dramatic but haven't a clue what he wrote in his observations to my regular GP. (I found out it is quite a normal thing to have this review in my state anyway, Govt idea of course for "some" medications) This other Dr went right back years to Day One and what I took etc..asked a few questions 'are you still on etc etc". he was a about in his 50s I guess and a foreign gentleman (am I allowed to say this???) hardly said a word. I however said all I wanted to say to describe my situation and problem to not much verbal response. He did ask a peculiar question "Have you noticed your legs shrinking?"....Excuse me? I assume he was referring to ageing people usually getting a cm or 2 shorter as they get older...which I probably have like many others...but I don't have osteoporosis so not worried about a bit of lack of height. Just thought it was an odd way of putting it....have your legs been shrinking?
what I am requesting next visit with my GP...to get another repeat, emphasise the pain is non-stop, and want more x rays or ultra sounds or whatever is needed to ascertain a "Cause" if any...a diagnosis? People have asked me what is causing the pain and I don't bloody know...I have had enough hit and miss and ready to be more assertive about what "I" want!!!.....(the last foray into the bowls reunion took all my energy I'm afraid and I need more rest time between gigs unfortunately.......Moon S x

Dear Moon~
That reference applies ot me and maybe to others, perhaps even famous bowling stars. I seem to have an inbuilt amount of worry to get through each day, and if one matter is resolved another pops up to take it's place.
I am not sure that 'resting' has quite the right connotations, I do know if an actor is 'resting' it means something quite different (then maybe bowling is another matter).
I'm glad your assessment is over, though I've no idea why he asked about your legs shrinking. Maybe he thought you were Alice and imbibed the famous ' Drink Me' potion - a magical liquid in Wonderland that has an unusual effect to make the drinker shrink in size. Then again maybe you wore flat heels.
It may be good to be more assertive, pain should not be simply as a fact of life, but every effort should be made to identify the cause. My causes, spinal issues and osteoarthritis, are clearly visible when having sat in a giant donut.

Croix.....yes I know Alice intimately (I leave you to figure out how). some wonderful quotes in there..."the time has come the walrus said to speak of many things". As one dolphin said to another..."I never go anywhere without a porpoise"...Why is a raven like a writing desk?"

Dear Moon~
I give up -why is a raven like a writing desk? 🙂
As for you knowledge of Alice, she used a flamingo for croquet, is that anything like bowling?
“Well! I’ve often seen a cat without a grin,” thought Alice; “but a grin without a cat! It’s the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!”

I don't believe the answer to the raven riddle was ever disclosed. Flamingo croquet is much more enjoyable than bowling producing more "good feeling" chemicals which when they flood the body, can result in reducing any body pain you maybe suffering from...chemicals like adrenalin (when you have your flamingo clutched firmly in your grip) the adrenalin surge is fantastic...plus other good chemicals like oxytocin, dopamine etc...apparently they can all reduce physical pain....which explains a helluva lot for me personally.
