Hi rah, welcome
Good question. Nerves I suggest. I've always wondered how some people can keep a straight face when they have to inform others of a death or injury. I know I have to bite my inside cheek to stop smiling and display a stupid face.
Nerves- thats my answer. Anyone else have an answer?

Hi rah,
WK is right in saying that when we're nervous we tend to use humour.
It's an interesting question you pose. So many different cultures experience death differently. In the typical western culture we tend to think that death is a time for grief and mourning. Death can also lead to a celebration of life. It's also possible that maybe you just didn't know how else to react. I don't think there's set instructions.
