Hello

I am wanting to know if anyone else feels just worthless. And what they did about that feeling that creeps inside of you.

Thanks

Sherie my friend, I am so very sorry to read about all this. I can't stay on long as internet isn't easy here. But I want to say this - and I know it might hurt you so I'm really sorry, but I say it from my experience of both being and living with an alcoholic (my ex) - it's not the grog talking hun, in my opinion the grog just brings out what's going on inside, taking away inhibitions and the social veneer we operate under. Yes we become so much better people when we're sober, but unless we commit to staying sober and being better people we don't change. My ex gave up drinking for a while but didn't change, that's why he's ex.

Think about it hun, this is your life and you are such a beautiful person I can't bear to think how he's hurt you. As someone who used to hurt people too when I drank, I am ashamed and furious. No one, least of all my special lovely friend should have to go through that.

I have a spare room if ever you need it. Serious.

Love to you

Kaz

Kaz, you're meant to be enjoying a well earned holiday!  Still its lovely to hear from you, so thankyou for making the effort to log onto the Site and check in with us all.

I understand you are saying that when someone is drunk they are probably being more truthful than they would be otherwise?  In that case yes, that hurts - a lot.  And as I sit here and again read through your post, the tears are streaming down my face unfettered.  You are not telling me what I want to hear, and I really want you to be wrong!   But if you're right, then he must really hate me, so I cant stay.  Anyway I cant think about it any more right now. Thats for another day perhaps.

Thankyou for the other kind words you spoke of me, they are undeserved and misplaced, but I am grateful nonetheless.  And thanks also for the spare room offer - again much appreciated.  I dont think I could ever take you up on the offer though, for reasons I have spoken about in the past.  Still, you never know.

Now, go and enjoy your holiday ................

Sherie sweetheart, I'm sorry my words hurt. I thought they might but I value you too much to offer platitudes when I see you suffering at the hands of a drunken bully.

I doubt very much that he hates you hun, that's not how it works with booze. Generally we hate ourselves, as Moonstruck said.  And when we're drunk we take our self-loathing out on people around us, people we care about. That's what I mean by the grog strips away the veneer. At least, that's how I was, and probably still would be if I was drinking. That's why it must be never ever again for me.

But the thing is, unless he recognises he has a problem and commits to changing, he will continue to take it out on you. He will deny there's anything wrong, or he might think he needs to cut down 'for his health'. He won't acknowledge what he's doing to you while ever the booze has hold of him. Because we don't want to know how much we're hurting someone else. And, he is the only one who can change that.

I agree Al-Anon would be a good idea. I've never dealt with them of course but I expect they can help you more than I can from the point of view of family suffering due to an alcoholic.

You really are a beautiful person hun, I see how much you help people here (including me!). Please put yourself first, don't take this.

Offer stands (and yes, I know - it stands nontheless).

Thankyou Kaz,

I dont really want to talk about it any more just now.  But I will take on board all that you have said.

And I thank you for your honesty, even though it hurts.

Thanks Kaz for the hugs, they were needed.

Yes I watched the cricket, and was very happy that Sydney Thunder won.

How are you enjoying your holiday?

 Dear Sherie

I was wondering how you are today, like deep down in your heart. I just read on another thread that you need a hug... So here is another one for you. I do hope you feel all the love I have for you, wrapped up in it. You are such a kind and loving person, even taking care of your hubby like you do. He really is blessed to have you. I am not sure of what else to say. And sometimes I even wonder if people including you get sick of all my hugs. And as much as I do desire to help you, my hugs seem silly or something. But even as I have just written that, I have had my eyes opened, to the fact that your companionship and offer of love to me has helped and blessed me already along this road of life. So maybe and I hope you feel this too in your own life. Now I am getting tired and I am confusing myself, so oops if my writing is not coming out clear.

Much care to you

Hi there Shelley,

I am okay thankyou.  Although when I think more about it, in my heart I'm really not.  I cant actually remember the last time I felt happy.  So yes, your hugs are always appreciated - thankyou.  And you really dont have to say anything in particular to help you know.  Just knowing that you're there to discuss things when I need to is enough.  So please dont ever think that what you offer is silly, or that I will get sick of your hugs.  Its simply not the case, I think sometimes its what keeps me going.  Even  though you often make me cry with some of your writings and hugs.  I do find that crying is a release that I need.  I have always tried to be very strong and never cry, except at the movies sometimes.  And even then I usually cry at the happy things, and have the old British stiff upper lip for any of the sad stuff.

I noticed on the Cafe thread that you said about my typo's being cute?  I just find it annoying, because I have always been very good at spelling and accuracy in all things.  But I am pleased it amuses you by being 'cute'.

Love to you too Shelley,

Sherie xx
