What is one small thing you managed to do today?

Hi everyone,

I know that when the fog of depression rolls in, just existing can feel like running a marathon. We often beat ourselves up for not achieving "big" things, so I wanted to start a space where we can celebrate the very small things.

What is one tiny thing you managed to do today?
It doesn't have to be big. It doesn't have to be productive.

  • Maybe you brushed your teeth.
  • Maybe you sat outside in the sun for 5 minutes.
  • Maybe you just drank a glass of water.
  • Maybe you simply got out of bed, even if you got back in later.

I got out of bed and took one of my kids to their vacation care service and took another kid to the gym. I packed a lunch for the youngest. I watched a utube video about suicidal ideation and I’m here now on this site. I am going to try and brush my teeth and have a shower. I’m working hard to remind myself that these feelings and thoughts will pass, I just need to keep going until they do.

Hello noapy,

I'm so happy for you that you managed to do all of these today. I know how hard it must be living with depression. It's such a very heavy feeling that makes you always question the point of life. Please be kind to yourself for enduring such a hard thing. Please try to take it one day at a time.

Hey everyone,

What a great space you’ve created Guest_10343! One thing I did today was going out to spend time with my friends. I have struggled for a while with being anxious going out and it felt really good to get out there a bit!

Proud of anyone who has accomplished something big or small today. Keep going, even if it is a struggle, you can do it. You are stronger than you think. Be proud of yourself for trying 🥰

I slept all day, got up at 10pm, I waited til others went to bed.  Had water, tea, cooked eggs and cheese, had meds, listened to music, watch TV, brushed my teeth, now back in bed again. It was just a little bit of self care, which is a good start, it doesn't matter what time it was, well it's 5.40am, and I'm tired again.

I got myself to the gym yesterday. Despite it being the last place i wanted to be after a full day of work, i knew it was the BEST place for me. I told myself "just one exercise and you can go home". I got myself through the first exercise which built momentum, and ended up doing a full workout! I was so proud of myself afterwards. After having a really rough day mentally/energy wise (for context i cried on the way to the gym) I felt a million times better after forcing myself out. Sometimes, and this is big or small, the thing you LEAST want to do, is what will make you feel better in the long run. A shower, a small meal, a walk, making your bed. They all compound into slowly making you feel better.

All the best everyone. Remember just one small thing makes a 1% difference.
