Hi
i sufferer from chronic generalised anxiety, PTSD and mild depression. The last two or three weeks I have been struggling to be happy. I can't be bothered doing anything, going anywhere and have to push myself to just do things around the house. I am on medication for this condition so it seems to stabilise me somewhat but as i said, I have been feeling worse. I know what my doctor will say, lose weight, do exercise, plenty of rest and eat healthily. I'm unsure if I should go and visit him and let him know I have become worse.

dear Petal, welcome to the site.
Firstly it would be a good idea to see your GP, but I feel as though you are hesitant in going back to your doctor, as he is critical of your condition.
Well some antidepressants do make you put weight on, and that's not your fault, but to try and lose some isn't as easy as he may say.
What I would do is to click under 'get support' at the top of this page, where there will be a list of doctors who are associated with BB, and then try one of these.
There is nothing worse when you have depression and for the doctor to harp on about losing weight, because this only adds to your depression.
You will be able to lose weight when your illness is under control, so you need a compassionate GP who will understand this problem, as some AD's are known for weight problems, so this is something that needs to be spoken about.
Some people do find that exercise is great for their depression, but then there are others, like myself who couldn't walk any distance to improve my depression, because I didn't have the strength or energy to do so.
Have a look at the list of doctors that could be in your area, and what I would also do is to say to him/her that you know that you should lose weight, so please don't harp on this, all I want is to feel better first. Geoff.

Hello Petal. I know how u feel. Ive got Generalised Anxiety and been on and off many anti depressants for years and have yet to find one that really stabalises my mood. U neeed to tell ur GP ur medication isnt working although it can take up to 8 weeks for it to really take effect. Im currently taking medication that makes u put on weight because it increases ur appetite, So im struggling with that as well as it makes me depressed looking in the mirror. Keep ur chin up, we are here for you. Welcome to the site 🙂 x

Hi Geoff
thank you so much for your kind words and advice. It is great to have someone really understand. I will have a look for another doctor as you suggested. I actually went for a walk today and it did make me feel a little better for a little while. It was a short walk but a walk so to me that's an achievement!!
thanks again and I hope you are doing fine as well 🙂

Dear Chloekat,
i have been like this all of my life but only diagnosed properly a couple of years ago but have been on antidepressants for 10 years now. I am on medication and it does seem to stabilise my mood, except for the last couple weeks. I wonder if the weather has something to do with it? I try not to look in the mirror because like you, find it depressing. I am a bit loathe to try other types of antidepressants as I seem to be not bad on this and fairly level in mood.
thanks so much for your kind words and advice. It is lovely to receive support from people who are in the know! Good luck to you too. Thank you
