Hi Naralle,
It sounds like you have noticed the "negative thoughts" and the "mood state" of "the depression." Just like a grey cloud that passes through the sky. It comes and it goes. I hear your frustration and that you try to think positive thoughts and that you know you should perhaps do positive activities. Sometimes where we are feeling and thinking this way we can choose to notice it, sit with it, listen to it, just like any other emotion or thought, let it come and then let it go. We can also make a choice about what we can do about it. You mentioned positive activities. This is a great step. And you have done the right thing by reaching out the Beyond Blue forum. That is a positive step, seeking social and emotional support and somewhere to express your feelings. What other positive steps can you take right now?
I can make suggestions that work for me. As hard as it can be sometimes and I know I want to be glued to the couch due to the heaviness of it all. I may go for a walk outside, even if it is around the block. I might call a friend or family member, maybe even visit my GP. I might do some gentle yoga stretches at home and watch a youtube video. I might watch a movie that I know makes me laugh. I may even journal about my feelings and thoughts and have a good cry if I need too. I often find crying helps with a healthy release of pent-up emotions. The walk helps to change my perspective as I use my sense to see all the beauty in the world and find one thing during that walk to be grateful. It could be seeing a butterfly. During these times I find that extra self-care is needed. Even some counselling sessions could help with these thoughts and feelings and just having someone to support you during this difficult time.
I hope you find a positive action today to take care of yourself, you made the right step reaching out, what else can you do today? What would you say to a friend that was going through this? 🌻
