Hello Dear Guest,

A very warm and caring welcome to the forums…

I can relate to your story, my husband passed away when I was 57, (married 38 years)..we had no super and very little savings…children and grandchildren live 7 hours drive from me, I do get the very occasional phone call, on my birthday, mothers Day, Easter and Christmas…Sometimes it’s years between visits as they are busy with lives of their own….I know they love and care for me, but working 6 days a week and families of their own they don’t seem to be able to find the time to visit me….I can get very overwhelmed with loneliness and feel abandoned at times…even thought they haven’t abandoned me…

I am aged pensioner and volunteer 3 days a week, (for now ) I’m thinking of stopping that next year though, due to both mental and physical health reasons…

Its hard to retire when not financially secure…I only have my pension payment every fortnight, I own my home so no rent, but land rates, power bills, telephone bills, food and water…(where I live the water is not really drinkable).. these living expenses uses a lot…but I have adjusted well….and try to budget each payment…

Government housing is something you might like to look into for retirement, a lady from work lives in a small government unit and with Centrelink paying a portion of rent, she is living quite good…better then I am…

I suppose it’s a matter of sometimes we have to change our lifestyle to survive the best we can….

A financial advisor could be another way to help you between now and your retirement…Not sure if I help you at all…but wanted to let you know you’re not alone…

My kindest thoughts Dear Guest and my care..

Grandy..
