It has come back again

After 7 years without being on a medication, I'm in a state that I'm feeling pretty low.  I think everything has got the better of me.  I've been trying to fight it for a few months but I realized I can't continue on this path.  I've been feeling like something is wrong or is about to happen.  I've been worrying about my 14 year old son who last year has been diagnosed with depression and anxiety and my 84 year old father has been suffering from depression and is about to go into surgery next week for his kidney to be removed.  I'm currently struggling to find permanent accommodation as well in the city that I moved to nine months ago as my flatmate decided to up and leave.  I feel like at best I'm existing, not actually living

Hi there unforgettable fire

Welcome to Beyond Blue and thank you for coming here and providing your post.

It does sound like it’s all really caught up with you and that your shoulders are very burdened with the weight that you’re carrying.  It’s a hell of a process to go through when things are like this and sooner or later, you just feel like crashing down.  As you mentioned, you feel in a place that is pretty low and things have got the better of you.

You’ve got other loved ones who are there that need your support – but for you to be able to support them, you need to get some of your own help and support and that’s been a brilliant thing that you’ve done by coming here and posting.  The first positive step.

As you’ve said, 7 years without medication – and perhaps not many other mechanisms in place to help you along.  I think it’s now high time that you sought out some professional help (firstly to a GP) to get some solid advice there and yes, the possibility of getting some medication as well.  The thing with meds though, is that they are not the golden saviour for us – if only – but they work well when combined with other things that we have to put into place to help us along.

Like the possibility of seeing a psych to talk things through and to obtain their professional guidance and help as well.  To the parts where we have to look after ourselves – eating well, doing some kind of physical activity, if possible, getting good amounts of rest and sleep.  Trying to do things to occupy ourselves, like hobbies, sports, other activities that you may find enjoyable – these can sometimes be harder than what we think, when we’re feeling so low and flat.

I do hope I’ve been able to mention something of usefulness to you, and would really love to hear back from you again.
