I suspect I may have un-diagnosed BDP

I just saw this article on social media and my jaw dropped as I can tick most of the symptoms for BPD.

Don't know what to do?
Should I see a psychologist?
Or are these symptoms also seen with other disorders?

Hey MisterM,

Your concerns seem genuine and if you feel that you experience most of the symptoms of BPD, then I would absolutely consider seeing your GP immediately and discussing further testing and possible treatment/intervention options and methods available.

Some symptoms commonly seen in people with BPD may also be seen in people with other conditions, however, BPD is a serious condition that requires treatment and constant monitoring of ones condition and should not be taken lightly. Your concerns are genuine and I believe it would be a good idea to book an appointment with your GP asap and discuss the abovementioned with him/her.

Hope this helps.

Nick.

Hi nick, yeah I agree with you, my daughter was just diagnosed with bipolar and has been in hospital seeking treatment for 5 weeks now, I struggle to understand it and struggle to help her, all I can do is try to keep her calm and not to get stressed over the littlest things to me but to her are a major issue.

Hello MisterM,

you sound very concerned. Please see your GP to discuss this. Self diagnosis can be a dangerous thing. It is easy to read lists of symptoms and identify with them. If you do have BPD then your dr and help you get the right care.

Hello MisterM,

you have been given helpful advice.

Concerned Dad,

If you want to start your own thread you can so people can help and reply to your concerns.?

I have been living with a diagnosis for over 40 years and am willing to answer any of your concerns.

There is also a Thread This bipolar life which is a friendly place for where you are welcome to come and read past posts and ask questions.

Also Black dog institute has a very informative website with lots of information.

Thanks again for your post.

Quirky

Thank you all.
I shall.

I used to be an admin on the largest bpd Facebook page in the world and have spoken to 100s of people who have borderline or borderline traits.

Best advice is too not get caught up in the "I have bpd and that's why I'm like this".

Too many people put the emphasis on the diagnosis rather then the triggers and managing those triggers effectively.

Hello quirky,

thank you, I’m still trying to understand it all, my daughter was discharged from hospital since then there has been a few ups and downs, the main downside is that she feels that she was wrongfully diagnosed and that she doesn’t have any issues?? It gets hard at times to distinguish the difference of being a dad and being someone there just for support for her, I try to read a lot of things about bipolar just so I can have an understanding myself and that way I can support her yes as a parent but also just as a person that she can rely on... probably not making sense from what I trying to say but hopefully it does...

cheers
