Getting help

Fuduu
Community Member
I have been getting symptoms of depression a lot lately and feeling like I am worthless and constant stress and dread of things and I want to get a help but I keep thinking about what people would think of me if I told them about it, for example if I told my parents they would think I am joking or trying to get attention or they would scoff and forget about me.

I think you have made a great step in coming here to talk. Maybe u should tell your parents so they can support you. How do u know they will think you are joking?

Hello Fuduu, and thanks Dejena for responding.

Depression is not something that can be forgotten or pushed aside, because it grows inside you and creates different problems, especially when you're trying your best to handle them, and perhaps your parents may have already noticed a change in you, however, these are issues we don't want attention from, nor is it a joke, mental illness is neither of these.

If you are 25 or younger then you can contact Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800 by phone, webchat or online who are trained counsellors and wear casual clothes.

If you are afraid of talking with your parents then are you able to consult with a doctor, then they can then tell your parents of your condition when a doctor tells them it has more authority and then your parents may then take it seriously.

There seems to be much that concerns you so just take your time and slowly open up at your own pace, no one will criticise you, we have all had or still struggling with our own type of depression and only want to help you.

Geoff.
