Hi,
I've had depression for a few years now, but only sought help at the start of the year. I've been on medication for 5 months now and there was a period where I was feeling do much better.
Although in the last couple of weeks I feel like the meds have just stopped working. I've never been so sad in my life. I'm constantly excusing myself at work and going to the bathroom to cry. I don't want to kill myself, but I want to just hit pause on my life. I've thought about packing up my stuff and leaving for awhile. I'm struggling at work and constantly feel like I'm just waiting to get hone and lie in bed and cry. I've had enough of this. I want to be happy so bad.
Anyone experience the same after taking medication? Any advice?

Hey a.white,
I'm sorry to hear you're struggling.
Medication isn't meant to be a cure. It's like pain relief right? It doesn't fix the problem, but it can give you temporary relief. But just like any drug, our bodies can basically become resistant and so an increase in dosage or further therapy is needed to help out.
Have you gone back to your doctor who prescribed the medication to tell them how it's going? It would be good to have a review of your medication.
It might also be good to see if you can work with a professional with some of those things you're struggling with. It's too easy to just rely on medication to numb the pain without using therapy to address the core issues. Is that something you've talked to your doctor about before?

Hi James,
I think I put too much pressure on the meds to work and felt like they were going to fix everything. For a while they did, but not anymore.
I will definitely be bringing this up with my doctor, thanks for the push.

Hi a.white,
It's nice to hear from you. Glad to hear you're okay with taking this stuff to your doctor. When it comes t medication, it's hard for us to comment because we only have our own experiences and don't know medication very well.
My own experience was that the medication got me to a good enough spot to work on the psychotherapy with my doctor, and the psychotherapy was what actually gave me most long-term improvement.
Please do let us know if you have any more questions or if you're struggling a bit. New medication can sometimes be difficult to adapt to.
James
