ive just been diagnosed with BPD.

its shocked me becasue i wouldnt have thought i have a personality disorder.

ive been told that DBT is the best form of therapy but dont really know much else, and i dont really know what to do from here.

ive been put on a waiting list to DBT group therapy but thats a long list minimum 4 months until then so not really sure how to proceed from here

can anyone share any experiences about where to from here, DBT experiences or anything at all

Hi starting new

I want to congratulate you!

BPD is a problem illness in that many that have it never seek help by getting a diagnosis and when they ddo they dont last long with treatment. The reason for this to my knowledge is that the patient becomes defiant and blames others...even their doctors.

Needless to say family and friends get a tough time coping.

So it like a breath of fresh air thst you are being proactive about it.

Whatever treatment you are asked to get go for it!. I hope someone knows more about it.

Well done

Starting new,

its onwards and upwards from here. I'm in the last module of DBT. I won't go into the components of the course.

It's a proven theraphy. 3 modules in all and a weekly one on one with a clinician to go over what's been covered. I've the option of doing it all again and also the option of the graduate program. It's certainly helped me and continues too. Without it I sincerely believe I wouldn't have made the progress thus far. I was diagnosed BP 1 18 months ago. Diagnosis is one thing. treatment is the other. You can You Tube it as well or google. Marcia M is the Dr who founded the program. I've done a number or courses. This one has helped me immensely.Look forward to your feedback. All the best

cheers LM

Hi Tony

I dont blame anyone for my diagnoses i have another 4 plus now this so it makes 5 mh diagnoses.

Ive been proactive since November when i first started getting help. Though ive been on the wrong and right paths and never a constant path ive been trying to work with psychologists and gps and psychiatrists and hospital admissions to get to this place i am now

Hi Airies

Thank you for telling me this part of your life and journey.

I wont be able to start dbt therapy for at least another 4 months yet

What else would u reccomend to do until then?

Hi Starting new

Yes I know you dont blame others. It is a common thing some do with BPD but you dont which is a good thing.

Thanks Tony

The only person i blame is myself

I wouldnt put the blame or guilt on anyone else

omg i have to tell my mother about this diagnosis! shes not going to believe me!
she never does, they will only beleive me if my new psych says that i do!

hw the heck do i bring it up when they dont beleive me with anythign else

Hi sn

My first wife had 4 siblings. If any of them or all of them as kids, ran into their house and told their father a crane toppled over at the end of the street he wouldnt believe them. If a neighbour child ran into their house and said the same thing he'd believe them. Then he'd walk to the crane to have a look.

Thats an odd thing with some families. Its a subtle form of contempt. I dont think it goes as far as disrespect.

There seems you have a great need for their alarm for your diagnisis. Do you know why? You dont have to talk about it if you dont desire.

im panicking Tony becasue i cant seem to win with them

if i dont tell them and i hide it thn they find out off someone else i get into trouble because i didnt tell them

but if i do tell them then i get the attention seeking talk and they hate me.

they hate me anyway i just dont know whatas worse being hated or being hated
