The Laughing Heart

your life is your life

don't let it be clubbed into dank submission

be on the watch.

there are ways out.

there is a light somewhere.

it may not be much light but

it beats the darkness.

be on the watch.

the gods will offer you chances.

know them.

take them.

you can't beat death but

you can beat death in life, sometimes

and the more often you learn to do it,

the more light there will be.

your life is your life

know it while you have it.

you are marvelous

the gods wait to delight

in you

~ Charles Bukowski

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge is my personal fave.
It was read to me when I was a wee kiddo, and has been a bit special to me ever since.

If you’ve got an hour or so to spare I’d highly recommend looking it up.

“And a good south wind sprung up behind;

The Albatross did follow,

And every day, for food or play,

Came to the mariner's hollo!

In mist or cloud, on mast or shroud,

It perched for vespers nine;

Whiles all the night, through fog-smoke white,

Glimmered the white Moon-shine.'

'God save thee, ancient Mariner!

From the fiends, that plague thee thus!—

Why look'st thou so?'—With my cross-bow

I shot the ALBATROSS.”
