Dear Johnny was down~
Welcome here to the Forum, a safe place where people can compare their experiences, say what worked and what didn't. There are as many stories as there are people, as everyone is different.
I don't know which Facebook area you are referring to but in general many are not moderated and as a result not necessary accurate or harmless.
Here great efforts are made 24/7 to ensue only material that is safe is available and if you wish to chat with people about depression and compare notes you will get a pretty healthy response.
As for depression being real, yes it is a common officially recognized illness and can respond very well to treatment - as mine has, and for very many is not a life sentence at all
Of course the only way to be sure about any medical conditon and its possible treatment is not via any group but by seeking a qualified medical opinion, so can I suggest if in doubt see your GP or therapist?
The Beyond Blue website is a good place to get the background facts on causes, symptoms and treatments

I hope this helps

Hello Johnny, hanks for posting your comment.
Facebook is a social networking service, some people like using it, while others won't go near it at all, for their own personal reasons, however, people will understand from the comments you make on this network how you are feeling, or because you don't want to make any remarks, especially if that's what you usually do, how you are and will begin to ask questions to themselves, why aren't you posting.
I haven't seen that particular post but understand that once someone has or has been diagnosed with some type of depression, they believe that's how they will be feeling for the rest of their lives, that's the negative thoughts that dominate their minds, but there are many different ways people can learn to overcome or to be able to cope with this symptom, it may only mean that once you know what's causing this, to then be able to change your life in different aspects from how you once were.
It's always good to encourage people to seek help as well and let them know how your treatment has been going.
Hope to hear back from you.
Geoff.
