so pretty much i'm diagnosed with general anxiety and social anxiety but i don't think i was with depression. although my mum and dad have mentioned a few times the fact that i have it, and so has my psychologist, and i guess i do have i suppose the "symptoms" of it but i was never diagnosed with it so do i just assume it? or ask my psychologist about it? bc like i knew i had severe anxiety years before i was hospitalised and diagnosed with it. so i don't really know what to do

Hi Jess M,

I'm sorry to hear you have severe anxiety and potentially depression as well.

I think in cases like this, it is best to speak to your psychologist about whether you have depression and what you can do to help. They would know how best to diagnose people who suffer from mental health difficulties.

That said, if you would like to talk to us about what symptoms you've been experiencing or anything else at all, this thread is for you and we'd love to keep talking to you.

Hello Jess M

Welcome to the forum and I can see that James has offered you some great support, I just wanted to add that we do have this on the Beyond Blue website, which is called a K10 test that you might find useful:

https://www.beyondblue.org.au/the-facts/anxiety-and-depression-checklist-k10

I see you have already the support of a psychologist which is great and I think a general chat about how you are concerned about how you are feeling is a very good thing to do, sharing any concerns about your feelings and thoughts is a good place to start as then people can help you, get a full picture of what you are experiencing.

Great to chat to you Jess M

Hugs to you

Hi Jess,

Sorry to hear that you're having a bit of a tough time at the moment - most of us have been there at one time or another.

For me, anxiety and depression have always gone hand-in-hand. Heightened levels of anxiety have led me into bouts of depression and bouts of depression have had levels of anxiety attached.

I'm more than happy to keep discussing how varying symptoms have affected me if you think it might help? Given that you've been hospitalised in the past and have a psychologist I would hope that you have the professional support around you that you need - I understand how sometimes it can be hard to convey what it is that you're feeling though to those you feel might not be understanding.
