Hi AZSD I too suffer with insomnia and sleep medication I was told to stay away from due to the reaction it gives me. I find days I go to the gym I sleep better and I am walking around the house crazy hours of the morning I do my ironing or make myself chai tea that's a real good one flor sleepiness and calmness and once ive done something I find I can go back to bed and get a few more hours . Im so used to not sleeping well with me I don't feel tired so its become like a habit and I don't even look tired . Or I turn the light on and read a magazine or watch a bit of tele don't know if these things will work for you everyone is different but give it a go and let me know how you go . goodluck

Hi AZSD
Welcome to Beyond Blue and congratulation on your first post.
I too came from another country but not as a refugee. Let's say I am from an Eastern culture. I developed clinical depression and anxiety as a result of 12 years workplace bullying and discrimination. As a refugee, your experience is far more painful than mine.
I see your command of English is excellent. Not sure if you're receiving treatment from the health professional or do you feel they're not helpful?
Are you the only one providing for the family financially? Is there no chance of receiving gov assistance? I heard that refugees are not entitled to some assistance but I am not quite sure. It is worth some research though.
Please write back and let us know how you get along. Take care.
