I'm a big sports fan (of the armchair kind) and find that watching sport on tele is a good way to distract myself when I'm down and dwelling on things or if my mind is racing. This time of year it's cricket, with tennis coming up. And Christmas, oh! Boxing Day test, Sydney to Hobart. Love it. Then the Aussie Open around Australia Day. Then the start of the motor racing year, then the footy season (league and rugby for me), the Tour de France, Wimbledon, Formula 1. Sigh.
Any other sports tragics out there? Looking forward to the Oz/ New Zealand test tomorrow!

Scotchfinger has an announcement to make! He is a Sandgroper through and through. Geraldton, WA born and bred. If he stays on this forum, you will hear his cheers for the mighty Dockers and the amazing Eagles. Long live AFL! (also a closet Richmond supporter)
So used to winning are we, that looks like the Scorchers are ready to take another Big Bash title. Melbourne Stars fans enjoy that last victory because it will be your last this season.
WA, famous for fly in fly-out miners, Bob Hawke, Dennis Lillee, Rod Marsh, Julie Bishop, Bon Scott, Justin Langer, Geraldine Doogue, Kim Hughes, Alan Bond, Lang Hancock and Gina Rhineheart, the list goes on and on and on and on and .........

Ohh nooooooooooo. Not another one. My husband was originally a West Aussie as well. Born at Margaret River, but grew up on a sheep and wheat farm East of Perth, before joining the Navy as a Junior Recruit and heading off to Vietnam.
So I am constantly having sporting arguments with him, coz naturally I follow NSW teams. For example Lance follows WA Sheffield Shield team and I follow NSW. In cricket he always wants to boot any NSW players of the teams and replace them all with WA members. Its a pain in the butt! At least we both follow avidly the Sydney Swans. But thats mainly because he used to play junior AFL for a team in Perth, called Swans I think? And they have the same colours. So at least we see eye to eye with that one. And with regards to the WC Eagles, yes they've won premierships, but at least one was won with drug fueled players. That was against the Swans when they played each other 2 years running, and split the booty one each. Agree with you that there have been some great WA cricketers, especially Lillee and Marsh (as in Rodney the keeper). But there have been even more great NSW cricketers. But I will try not to burst your bubble too badly, and keep the rest to myself.
Favorite horse names? No, none that I can currently think of. But if I do, I will come back on and let you know.
Hey Kaz, keep up the research! Sport is very important to people management and wellbeing.

Ha ha, truce then!
Wasnt it last year in the BBL final that Scorchers beat Sixers in a super over? I so would have liked Sixers to win that as it was a farewell game for Brett Lee. Oh well. Not this year for Sixers either, as they finished last. So I am now going for Thunder. They play Strikers tonight, so they will need to all fire to beat the top team. And in the final I will be going for anybody other than Scorchers, because they've won the last 2 years.
Uhhmm, no need to let me know which games you are intending to throw. I'll take my chances on my own I think, that applies to cricket and AFL. ( - :
Now, now - dont you forget we have declared a truce!!!

Hi Moonstruck. Nice to see you again. I met you at The Cafe before I think? This thread is specifically for Sport talk, and I've been rapped over the knuckles before for veering off topic on another thread! So I would suggest that, unless you have some comment at least remotely related to sport, you stick with The Cafe thread for more general topics. I am popping in there now, so I may see you.

I think it best to let you know which games we've thrown after we lose them. Yeah that's the best way to go.

No thanks, I think its best I remain oblivious to corruption in sport. ( - :
What do you think about Black Caviar's trainer copping a hefty ban for Cobalt use? Do you think it will taint BC's fantastic record and memory? I really hope it doesnt. But who knows.
