Hello all.
It's a good thing today is New Year's Eve -the nursing staff won't have to come around at midnight to wake us up to ask if we are sleeping....
I've looking around the internet, right, for Xmas music, & i've come across a few versions of Auld Lang Syne. One I like very much was recorded by James Taylor. However, I am wondering what other songs we might specifically sing on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day? Other than Auld Lang Syne, are there any other songs that you know of? But also, I wonder just how many versions of Auld Lang Syne there out there on the web, because if that's all there is, we're going to be singing Auld Lang Syne over & over & over again, all night long.... []LRC is gargling cherry & honey yoghurt by the tubfuls, & grinning. (So it's not a pretty sight)].

Hello MK and All,
I just listened to the James Taylor version of Auld Lang Syne and I agree, it’s quite lovely. I found myself singing along. You mentioning James Taylor made me think of the Steve Winwood song Back in the High Life again on which James Taylor sings backing vocals. Perhaps that is my New Year song. I had never paid much attention to the lyrics before, I just liked the optimistic music. But I read the lyrics just now and they feel quite appropriate for me in that they are about opening doors that have been closed in life and reconnecting with people again. That is very much where I am at and I’m looking to next year to be an opening of doors and all about connection. So thank you for mentioning James Taylor as it sent me on that helpful tangent. I hope all of us can be back in the high life again, so to speak, finding ourselves where we want to be, doing the things we love and connecting in the ways we want to.
I’m sure there are many other good songs to ring in the New Year too, so you won’t have to do Auld Lang Dyne on repeat all evening while gargling cherry and honey yoghurt 😂 I’m very happy to hear anyone’s suggestions. I’ve always been a big fan of Steve Winwood’s Higher Love as well because it’s such an uplifting song, even though others make fun of me for my 80s music obsession. Long live 80s music!
Hugs,
ER

Hello Deebi and All,
Somehow I missed your last message the other day Deebi and just seeing it now. Great to have you in on the mischief 😊
There are so many inebriated kiwis in Croix’s room now that there is a giant pile of them and the only evidence a walrus is there are two tusks sticking out, decorated with marshmallows.
Croix, I hope you have been doing ok and the New Year brings good things. We hope you are enjoying the entire entourage camping out in your room. Even EfFe is there - the elephant in the room 😂
Take care and salty sea hugs,
ER

Dear favorite peole~
As you can see from my avatar I'm back again:) I have not inspected my iceberg yet, I might not be speaking to you all after I do!
It took a lot longer than I'd anticipated, ED then a ward, however for a while I was a bit out of it (somewhat on the scary side as I could not breath) and did not used MmMekitty's advice and entertain myself with my phone, though it always has pleanty of books etc on it as I was mostly out to it.
Later on I did but I had to use headphones (multiple bed ward) and came across the problem I could not charge at the same time (only one port on the phone). The problem was solved when I was given a round plate I sat my phone on, it charged it without using the port, leaving it free for the headphones.
I'm now waiting on the results of a cat scan (if you will pardon the expression MK).
It's a pity as its the first Christmas/New Year I've not spent on the Forum in 9 years. Of course Mrs C and I were unable to go to the beach and view the fireworks. A break wiht tradition. Hopefully things wil be back to normal next year.
I hope you all had a pretty good time and left me some iceberg. There was no elephant in the room as there was no space, the ward was very cramped with just the usual curtains between each occupant. We scrounged a chair for Mrs C
Can't comment on MK's fish, the hospital seems to have one all-purpose food, and gives it differing names depending one the menu, I did have some alleged turkey.
Fortunately I did not have to wash or dry any sheets and did a lot of snoozing.
Nice to be back, Sumo agrees and is sitting closer than ever.

Dear Croix,
It is so nice to know you are back snuggled with Sumo. I'm sorry though it's been a bit of an eventful time in the hospital. I'm glad you are through the hospital experience with the alleged turkey and all. I remember my dad being served what seemed to be various permutations of the same thing in hospital, all claiming to be more different than they actually were. I'm glad you were eventually able to charge your phone and listen with headphones at the same time too. My phone also charges by one of those round plate things. I hope the cat scan gives helpful and positive information.
Well all is fine at the iceberg. The kiwis have their craft brewery business going gangbusters so it's quite the hub of activity now. People, and creatures of all sorts, have put the iceberg on their itinerary. It's now considered a world class destination. So you may find it a little, ummm, busy. But there is still a pile of snoring kiwis in the igloo, so should you feel the need to escape the busyness the kiwi snores will hopefully lull you into a peaceful state.
Take good care Croix and big hugs,
ER

Hello Dear Croix,
It's lovely to see you back & to know Sumo cat missed you.
It must be nice to get back to real food. My theory is that hospital food is as it is in order to give everyone a big incentive to get well quick & away from it. Of course if we had thought of it we should have sent in regular penguin deliveries of clams to tide you over.
Rest up & I hope the scan goes well.
Hugs

Dear Paws and All~
Yes Sumo is less dignified and more downright freindly since my return. I guess having nobody to supervise has left him at a loose end. Now I have to keep on edging him off hte keyboard.
The idea of penguin clam deliveries does have its appeal though a parade of penguins (which are edible) in front of some of the longer term patients might have had unfortunate consequences. The temptation for tasty food might be a strong one. Uber Eats wiht a side order of penguin?
Hospital cooking is designed to remove taste, perhaps it is considered harmful. Actually I did not eat that much, did not feel like it.
I have feeling scans are self-perpetuating, as the results came back saying I need more scans, so back to the big plastic doughnut.
"Hold steady please, big breath and hold"
... ... ... ... ... cough, gasp --
"Oh sorry, I should have said you could breath again".
There must have been something behind that lead partition that took the technician's interest and make him forget what he was doing.
I have a feeling on the next occasion the technician will receive a stern lecture before we commence on patients needing to breath at least every now and again.

Hello Croix, Paws and All,
Croix, it’s lovely you have Sumo supervising you with extra attention. He would have missed you and I’m sure is very glad you are back.
Yes, the penguins may be waddling out of there as fast as possible if hungry patients find them appetising.
Definitely remind the technician next time to remember to tell you when to breathe again! The time I had a CT scan that required breath holding it was actually the machine itself that told me in a sort of computer voice both to hold my breath and when to let go again. Although that was a bit freaky being instructed by a machine, at least it told me when to breathe again.
Take care Croix and enjoy time with Sumo 🐱🥰
Hugs,

Hi Croix & ER & everyone
Yes, it's wonderful to see you have been 'discharged' (along with your phone) from the hospital & can have real food again. Doesn't 'discharge' seem an odd word to use when you have been assessed as well enough to leave the place?
As for CAT Scans, the last time I had one of those, I rather hoped it would "meow" at me, but I, too, heard a synthesised voice give me instructions, including whent breathe & when to hold my breath. Made me feel I need more aerobic exercise, you know, more work on the exercise bike, or rounding up kiwis, who, if you let them, guzzle up the craft beer they are making faster than they are brewing ...
While I would love for Sumo to visit & take over my place for a while, there is really nothing better than to see him snuggling up to you, in front of your fireplace, while you read to him from Dr Seus or T S Elliot or Garfield comics.
& no matter where you are, we can always scrounge up a chair for Mrs C. No worries.
When I was in hospital, three years ago, (it's still hard to believe it really was three years ago), I was given some rice with my meal, which was way too spicy for me. Fortunately the ham, pineapple & salad was enough. It was bcause I had been under anaesthetic, & was still feeling snoozy, so I wasn't thinking much about being hungry anyway. But maybe it was fortunate I wasn't in over the Xmas/New Year break - I mean, maybe that's when the kitchen staff imagine their patients could use a reduction of excitement in their lives? It's exciting enough if you can get to listen to something on your phone, I guess. & really exciting if you can get up to walk a couple paces to the loo - escorted... what! OMG!
Hugzies to you, Mrs C, Sumo, ER, DB, Paws ... yes, I like giving hugzies to everypne, getting cat hair all over you all.

Dear MK and all~
Well even though I already am covered in cat hair the hugs would be nice. Sumo is dark brown and black, so I guess there might be a contrast.
Actually I read him episodes from Monster-piece Theater, "One flew over the Cuckoo's nest" at the moment. We've just got to the part when One takes to flight - exciting stuff.
You must have had later model doughnut, with automated voice, mine had an inattentive attendant who did not make me feel like I ought to be doing aerobic exercises, quite hte reverse, reminds me of
"When I feel like exercising I just lie down until the feeling goes away"
Actually I think Sumo might be a bit miffed, while I was away he had the whole chair to himself, now he has to share (not something most cats are good at).
It's a pleasant homecoming to hear all the inebriated kiwis snoring in corners. Mind you if they are asleep who is consuming thier brewed beverage? Maybe they take it in shifts.
You had rice ham, pineapple AND salad, talk about luxury. Actually the phone was a life saver as towards the end of my stay I was well enough to get bored and the hear-a-books made all the difference.
