Hey croix you know how to get people thinking.do you rate michael nyman(hope thats his correct name) who did the piano soundtrack, and yo-yo ma whose done some great film scores.

I heard of Michael Nyman in The Piano, and that has lead a long way, even though he did not write it the tribute to his wife Aet "Unchained" was so well chosen, I've just been listening to Alle Orchester bei der Musikschau der Nationen 2002 in Bremen, it beats the The Righteous Brothers version in Ghost, at least for me.

I guess "Where the Bee Dances" would be one of his I like, originally written as part of a sound track to a modern version of The Tempest it has a hard but reflective mood for me.

I've been looking for his photography without success, just lots of portraits.

Yo Yo Ma (& Petunia),like Nyman, has so prolific and broad a repertoire it defies description. Perhaps I should pop in a fun piece, Stephen Harper performs at the National Arts Centre gala, where he sings 'I just get by with a little help from my friends" accompanied by Yo Yo. Written by you know who.

I liked your description of that butterfly emerging. I've been in a field of white petals that suddenly all opened into wings of butterflies that flew up, unexpected and a wonder.

Apart from wishing you a happy Easter too I was thinking about that autobiography in which you generously mention me too. Um- I'm not sure. I only associate with the very best musicians - are you really that good:)

Hello Croix and everyone.

I don't think I have posted here before. I am branching out. I have enjoyed reading the last three pages of posts and the discussion on music. Music is a huge part of my life and my radio is on all day tuned to ABC Classic. Love it. Currently there is the annual ABC Classic survey, this year to determine the most popular composer. I have not cast my vote yet but I think I will be voting for several Australian composers. (We have ten votes). So Nigel Westlake who wrote the penguin ballet in the film, Peter Sculthorpe who wrote so much about Australian themes like the bush and especially Kakadu, Ross Edwards who wrote that beautiful and haunting Dawn Mantra amongst other works and Elena Kats-Chernin. Time to celebrate Australian composers.

So who would you choose? Some of the less well-known composers are popping up such as Julian of Norwich writing in the 14th century. We are so lucky to have this enormous number of composers in the world all with their individual styles and works. I can never be bored with music.

Happy Easter Croix.....on the subject of composers, I am not an expert on the old classical composers, so won't pretend to be....however I have to say when I listen, really listen to the lyrics of Rodgers & Hammerstein; and more lately Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice.....they are close to genius in my opinion.

listen to Some Enchanted Evening..(South Pacific) and Love Changes Everything (Aspects of Love)....sublime! (in fact Croix, google up Michael Ball singing the latter on u tube at the Albert Hall, the tribute show to A L Webber) and you'll see what I mean.......love Moon S

Thank you for your continuing interest in our band that as yet doesn't actually fit any genre as surprising as it may seem as we're completely raw and unique in our style. I saw you mentioned Desiderata I too absolutely loved it and still do the very first time my brother played it to me when I was 16 or so. I first heard the version from Les Cranes and the scenery it's just fantastic. So much wisdom in it isnt there, I too have it on my wall. One day I intend to write it out in Old English calligraphy. I love how his voice says so clearly ...

"You are a child of the universe...and no less than the trees and stars you have a right to be here"

It's kinda my bible.

Still some heat here but not as horrid and consuming. I prefer the cooler weather. Took many yrs for me to come to terms with the heat but good thing is I can hack it now. Kinda said to myself I can't do anything about it so just accept it. Helped a lot. I don't have fans (well not the electric type 😉) or air conditioning but still don't like it. A lot of people love it.
