Hello Mr Croix....and everyone

are there any Andre Rieu fans in the parler? This conductor/musician has done so much for classical music especially for the young people

its not earth shattering by any means....I watched an interview with Andre Rieu and he is criticised by his peers for 'over commercialising' classical music by 'touring' with his orchestra

Mr Rieu does commercialize music of course, and that is necessary if we are to have public performances of anything from opera to ballet to concerts.. He is also undeniably popular. He very much answers a need in the population.

I was introduced to his waltz music in a palace in Vienna by a friend that was a fan. Mr Rieu created a fairyland, out of this world, with the oldest of palaces and sets skillfully melded with Strauss and similar music.

While I cannot say there are not many other aspects of music that appeal to me as much, I did really enjoy the performance and wish him well.

Yes BlondGuy....Andre Rieu has done wonders for classical music....a truly great artist..a neighbour of mine, a very cultured ex musician lady in her 90s had the most enormous crush on him...absolutely madly deeply in love with him, made visitors sit and listen/watch him for as long as she could keep them captive!

Croix.. Kenny Everett? You mention Kenny Everett straight after Oscar? that's a bit of a leap isn't it? well why not? I've gone further than the sofa/bed with my fear of everyday things.

I am picking up a new Phone, yes a proper new Phone that I can take photos with and put them on Facebook and check emails and ooh....all sorts of things! I am so scared of it...and made the shop assistant promise me she would not let me leave the premises without knowing how to use it!! wish me luck.

I also am halfway thru a cosmetic...yes you read right...cosmetic dental procedure that will allow me to smile and grin broadly in photos instead of coyly keeping my big mouth closed!!! and....and...yes there's more...i have new floor coverings in a room that badly needed it - trivial occurrences I realise but to a timid wallflower like myself, organising all this was a big step forward.

I completed the Mindspot course which I did find helpful. easy access to the therapist and I have all the material to re-read when I need to. (it wasn't a "Mindfulness"course...I seem to manage that activity all by myself!)

well I have rabbited on here for so long, I have taken over your quiet fireside evening..and for this I thank you for your patience and understanding.

HI all,

Glad to be back after all of the stress of dealing with gov't red tape. But I now finally have my passport! So everything looks like a reality - which I must admit is difficult to accept.

Hey, what is all of this art business? Be it music, painting, calligraphy or something else. I used to do calligraphy a lot, as well as water colour. You've been an inspiration! Must use it as a break at times (who knows it might go hand-in-glove with the therapy I signed up to.

@Moon - I'm going to give the Mindspot course a go, will do the one on Wellbeing that is CBT-based to assist with my PTSD. I realise that I still have a bit of a way to go, as my counselling studies are also showing me (just passed Advanced Counselling too - another achievement). Being accepted for this course and hearing the test results were quite daunting. I will look forward to starting it in May, once I return to Oz.

@DB. Sorry that your BP is interfering with your sleep. BP is one of my minor concerns for this trip, not sure what it will do at high altitudes for almost 15 hours. So will be prepared for that in my new carry-on bag.

@Dools. Love your quote. Think one of my issues is the difficulty of accepting complements and positive talk, must try to include that in this new CBT based course.

Hello Mr Croix and everybody

I was brought up in a strict private school with traditional classical music. Vienna would have been wonderful...I was only thinking that he brings beautiful classical music to the young ones....(if they can find a moment to get off their cell phones !)

Their are people that can get on a Boeing737 local or a A380 long haul flight. I know there are courses for people that have a fear of flying yet the thought of doing so scares the hell out me

I just think that Andre Rieu has put the Class back into Classical 😉

Yes this thread is for people to talk abut anything that does not go in a normal serious thread, and very often that is the Arts, which many find an interest and change of pace in. There is sometimes serious stuff here -no rules really.We have talked about everything from Sartre to Simenon, and have fun. I've learned a lot about more modern music here.

This does have a rule, only stuff that people can use to get a lift. Other than that anything you like, short or long. The idea is you can read your own- or other peoples happy memories when you are down as a reminder hte world is larger than you think .
