Dear Moon~

I've been off-line for a few days and am only just catching up. I read your thread and am glad you are feeling calmer, that gratitude journal sounds a good idea, as is the advice you gave yourself:)

Went to see Tea With The Dames, which was very interesting, the recollections of Dames Eileen Atkins, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Joan Plowright with excerpts going back to the 50's. Even a bit of Z-Cars. Well worth viewing if you get the chance.

Croix....it has certainly been on my list of "must sees"..and will get to enjoy it in some form or other that's for sure....have you seen Maggie Smith in Neil Simon's 'California Suite"?...I adore her in that role. She plays an English actress who has been nominated for an Oscar at the Academy Awards...and curiously enough, I think if my memory is correct...that in real life, Maggie actually won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for just that role at the following year's real Academy Awards!!

Haven't checked that out but makes a good story....glad you replied.

I've always like Maggie Smith from the Prime of Miss Jean Brody through Death on the Nile to Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. That film you mentioned had Michael Cain in it if I remember, another favorite.

I'm not sure if it is your sort of thing I just got Cadfael a TV series staring David Jacobi, a detective monk, a rather quiet actor but enjoyable. Do you like historical detective mysteries?

Yes Michael Caine played her husband. The lines, as one can always expect from Neil Simon were brilliant!!

You asked about detective mysteries..actually about the only fiction I really get into, i.e. her books and some of the screen adaptations of her novels , are Agatha Christies, esp Miss Marple.

Someone asked me once if I had trouble 100% enjoying and believing the scenarios in TV soap operas and some movies and have to say that for reasons I won't go into here...that Yes I am aware all the time that they are "acting" and it's not real at all, therefore it's impossible for me to get "caught up" in the story; I enjoy the characterisation, the unfolding of the plot, the lines and so on....and can get enjoyment out of watching the same DVDs over and over again....like looking at a beautiful piece of art...not to find out "what happens in the end".....if you get my drift!

(that was a bit confused and rambling Croix...I think you know what I was trying to say, you're so perceptive)

I think for me once the 'magic' of suspended disbelief was lost then my favorites would loose a lot of their appeal. To know there were lights, extras and a tea trolley just off camera would make the story being portrayed unrealistic and dull. I suppose it is a question of likes, I'm an escapist, by the sound of it you have an appreciation for how things are constructed, perhaps for you the actual delivery of the line - say

Lady Bracknell: To lose one parent, Mr. Worthing may be regarded as misfortune ...

Will allow you to admire the skill and effect on the audience, whereas to me it is the character's play on words.

With Agatha C, I like Poirot rather than Marple. I recently saw Ridley Scott's Murder on the Orient Express. This is the third innings I've sat though. I much preferred the David Suchet version, even if the budget was minuscule in comparison.

Just calling in to say hi and hoping you're well.

Enjoying the lovely fire nice and cosy with your lovely wife and puddy tat? I adore cats especially kittens, ohhh look at them, just have to hold them and when they jump around and stand on their two little widdle back legs, tummy all soft. Oh they're so cute. Sorry might be repeating that here. Might need a memory stick 😄

Don't think I've seen any of Chuck Norris when he's older but I imagine what you said would be true. He's had quite a career hasn't he. I think he's one of the better actors out of the super stars in action.

So glad seeing Becker back on, wish they'd get some older shows, even though I still find them halarious there's so many times you can see the same one. Often in comedy it's the support actors that tend to hold up the main character like Kramer in Seinfield and Elaine but Becker holds his own very well.

I was thrilled to see Wentworth made it to free TV but it's off for now.

Gorgeous days in this neck of the woods, rarely any different in paradise, one day I'll have to leave here I guess if rent goes much higher. Big shame

Nice to see you. I'm not sure about all puddy tats. There is one you here would get on with, that's Sumo Cat. He's about as relaxed and laid back as a cat can get, and you are right we are in front of the fire. Now the other is called Nasty Cat for a reason, and it starts with a hostile stare and goes downhill from there. Not a puddy tat at all, more your average disaster area.

Old Chucky appeared in Expendables 2, where they must have given him gear made of balsa wood to hold as real stuff would have been too heavy. He made Silvester Stallone look young! If you want to see what he's like look at his Wikipedia page. I know, you won't talk to me again after saying all that about a hero:)

It looks like you enjoy New York City shows, one of my favorites would be Futurama (yes it is set in NYC) and another Naked City. I agree Becker is OK. I'd not watch Wentworth though, allergic I guess.

I must try living in paradise some time, as least I'd not have to buy fuel.

Hey Croix....

"to lose both looks like carelessness"!! There, see i finished it for you. re Murder Orient Express, ages ago they did one with Albert Finney in the lead...Ingrid Bergman won a Support Oscar for her tiny role as the Missionary...I haven't seen the new one yet...I find this particular story so long and drawn out when you know from the start "who dunnit".

I'd be interested to see what Johnny Depp did with it..despite a lot of his negative press, he is just so versatile as an actor....that's what counts!!

And as you know, I'd watch and listen to Judi Dench read the phone book!!

PS....forget the lights and tea trolley!!! There is a happy medium between "not being able to suspend disbelief" and imagining the stupid tea trolley Croix....e.g. when you gaze at a beautiful painting, do you constantly see the artist in his paint smattered smock, tearing his hair out and cursing in frustration as he tries to get it right?

No of course you don't....you see something beautiful......happy weekend to you.

The Albert Finney version was the first I ever saw and thought he was terrible, not even a caricature, just aimless 'continental' prejudice badly executed. True the supporting actors were better.

I was amused at your idea of Judi Dench reading the phonebook, reminds me of The Master Singers singing The Highway Code (yes really:)

Mr Depp did a good job as the mobster Edward Ratchett, mind you I was so mesmerized by Kenneth Branagh's mustache, which took up nearly half the set, I scarcely noticed.

Don't agree with you about the tea trolley, I guess for me it is sort of all or nothing. Once I step back and become conscious it is actors the magic is lost:(

You're fine Croix...just go on enjoying the magic as you do. The actors don't have much choice really..as they are the ones creating that magic that you so get lost in ..and thank God you do...

it's a complex thing to try to describe here in words. It's a unique exchange of a particular brand of magic.....the actors giving it out to you and you in turn , by believing it are giving it back tenfold!! So no one misses out...(except perhaps the tea lady..hehehe)...well, I am off to find some "magic".or should that be "create some"???

(ps. thanks for spoiling the movie for me Croix...I won't be able to take my eyes off Kenneth's moustache now !!!!)
