Hi everyone. I'm Geoff and have been a dedicated Volunteer on the forums for 13 years. I am proud to have stopped some of the stigmas that are associated with mental health as well as doing my best to help others too

Before my health went south I was a builder in all aspects of home construction and renovation. If you don't have a handyman around I hope I can offer you some tips that may be of help. I have had many years of experience in home renovation and will do my best to help you out if you are stuck and need some advice

I hope my experience may be of help to the people on Beyond Blue and make their life a little bit better. Even if you need help with the most basic painting job or putting up a shelf I can help there too with some tips

I will do my best to get back to anyone that has a question when I can as this is social yet important thread

Hi EM, yes back ribs and then front ribs, 90% healed but you can't sneeze, cough or even laugh, and to get in and out of bed, ouch ouch.

Only pain relief can help, just a little.

it is not easy having that soreness but thats amazing that its 80 percent better and is on the up

so no mischief for you right now then eh geoff , glad your on the mend anyway though. l got another car a few wks back and did the rwc myself along with some other mods for work thinking l'd save a heap so that's been keeping me of the streets fir awhile,

You been warm sleepy ? Funny thing l was in the hardware today and they had one of those latest indoor outdoor bar heaters running , they're on tv right now suppose to be water proof and nice and hot and blah blah. Well l must say stood around this one for awhile and gees it wasn't bad either, Until l asked her how much it was. 400 bucks , that ain't cheap especially considering it's only small . Said on the pamphlet it costs 50 cents and hour to run so l dunno about that either , pretty sure you can run something much bigger for 35 -40 cents an hr. They rave about how much heat it puts out it's only small though still , must say it did feel pretty cosy . God there's so many damn heaters out there now though isn't there.

50 cents per hour sounds expensive but if its good ? I'm really warm with my new heater, it's worked really well, glad I swapped it for the other one. Thanks for your tip I used the bricks to get it started. It seems like a really good fit for the room, it heats it up instantly, although when you turn it off I wouldn't say the heat retains, in half an hour its cold again lol...yes these devices are complicated and there's so many!

I like the cosiness you desribd with the outer heater though.... at this time of the year in Victoria I can understand how people are seeking that. The rest of my house is pretty cold, I have a big drafty lounge sort of opens up into the kitchen so its hard to heat and not much sunlight either.

But in my room with the new heater its pretty gorgeous temperature and i feel very snug!!

Haaa hey sleepy .that's great l'm happy your all snugged up , nice one.

Yeah 50c an hr sounded a lot to me too . l remember your lounge sounded a lot like mine and it can be a bit of a bugger too, l jump into bed with my beloved elec blanket and the pc when l can't be bothered warming it up or get it warm enough. Some nights it just won't others it's not bad.

Hi RX, I've seen the ads on tv for those heaters and from what they say it sounds pretty impressive, it's the cost of running we don't know until the bill arrives.

All of this depends largely on what we want to heat, how many windows/doors we have in the rooms but we need the warmth.

Sleepy, is there insulation in the roof, if not then the room will instantly get cold or hot in summer, it's a battle to find a compromise.

Hi Geoff,

How are you? I haven't chatted with you for ages.

I am thinking of getting a window air conditioner (the box ones that fit in windows) for my bedroom in my very hot fibro Housing property. It has a tiled roof, freezing in winter, heat shocking in summer. I have a west facing double bedroom - it's not a big room - but would a window air conditioner keep it cool in summer? Would running it be very expensive (if I just used it afternoon and maybe a bit in the evening on the worst nights but not all night..) I have blockout curtains on the windows (2 sash windows, old fibro house) and last summer I put car window shades cut out to fit over half the windows as well.

Just wondering what I should have to pay and will it help in a fibro? Thanks Geoff!
