Before my health went south I was a builder in all aspects of home construction and renovation. If you don't have a handyman around I hope I can offer you some tips that may be of help. I have had many years of experience in home renovation and will do my best to help you out if you are stuck and need some advice
I hope my experience may be of help to the people on Beyond Blue and make their life a little bit better. Even if you need help with the most basic painting job or putting up a shelf I can help there too with some tips
I will do my best to get back to anyone that has a question when I can as this is social yet important thread

Thanks for that one Geoff l did see it way back then got side tracked so sorry bout that.
Wish l could get my kitchen door off tried to trim it still on because l couldn't even budge the pins, made a mess of it l'm afraid so ok , when l get the chance to tackle it again l'll give all that a go . It needs to be put flat on the horses now and cleaned right up properly so if l can get it off that'll be unreal. Cheers
Mate l wanted to ask too , can l change the size of a fly screen frame ?
My joints got no screens but there was a heap of frames in the shed still nice, but they need to be a bit smaller. It'll save me a fortune if l can just cut them down a bit and rejoin them or something to that effect,
Thought l saw something about it once but l can't even find a screw on the corners to undo.Must be something holding them together haha.
Cheers again mate.

Thanks for that Geoff l did read it back when but got sidetracked haha.
No worries then l'll try all that , couldn't get it off last time couldn't even get the pins out so l tried to trim it still on made a bit of a mess. Really needs to be laid down on some horses now and cleaned up nice so l'll give all that a try.
Geoff also wondering can l cut down fly screen frames a bit ?
This place had no fly screens but a pile of nice frames in the shed, mostly a touch too high though, just need a few cm off the heights. Thought l saw it done pretty simply somewhere , but l can't find screws in the corners ,
Just wondering if it's worth the trouble , it'd save me a fortune.
Cheers again. rx

Hi RX, how are going?
With the kitchen door hinges what you can try and do is use a screwdriver to force the hinges off, once you get to a stage the hinges will be loose enough to pull out, you will have to use new screws to reattach it and perhaps replace the hinges as well, so don't worry if you have to damage them, they're for the bin.
Absolutely, use the fly screens you already have and you will save a fortune, do you know whether they fit inside the house or on the outside, don't panic, what you can do is place them on the outside and screw them onto the frame, 4 little screws will hold it in place, but you can let me know.
To pull them apart there is a rubber that goes around the whole screen, it's in the back of the screen.
Get a smallish screwdriver and pull out the rubber end, that's what holds the screen together, then take the flywire out, if it's still in good condition keep it, then the flywire screen will fall apart, cut off as much as you want, don't go overboard and cut off too much.
Now there is a plastic tool, it's got a wheel on it, but if you ask at the hardware store 'a tool to put flyscreens together', they will know what you mean, it's only a couple of bucks.
This is what you use to push the rubber back into the groove to hold the screen
Let me know if they fit inside or outside the frame, but to keep them in place you can buy little plastic hooks where you screw in 1 end and the other end turns 360 degrees but will hold them on the frame.
Good to hear from you, as always.
Geoff.

Thanks a million Geoff.
Yep l reckon that's the only way with the kitchen door these things aren't going anyuwhere the polite way haha.
Man that's great about the screens then , knew l saw something about all that somewhere. Well my windows are just the aluminum sliding ones and the screens pop into the extra section on the outside. But l had a better look after reading reply and you could also just screw them straight over it too or use those little clip things , if they won't slot into the window frames.
Thanks again Geoff , very appreciated , don't actually mind flies myself nothing a few squirts of fly spray doesn't fix and l love the openness of no screens , but gf hates flies, and fly spray too haha.Admittedly ya got mossies too this time of year
l've got more to throw at you mate so if ya getting sick of me just yell. Hope you've been rolling along ok , but maybe dreading christmas, againnnnnn , like me.
All the best. rx

Hello RX, sorry I'm late, but I will always reply to you and I will check this thread every day from now on.
Did you buy the plastic roller it's only a couple of dollars, but it stops using a screwdriver because it can slip and then put a hole in the flywire.
Sorry I missed you before Christmas so please keep asking anything you want.
Best wishes.

Hi Geoff ,
Oh God no mate no need for that l'm only here every week or 2 myself and as for any jobs l ask they're usually at least that far away again before l'd even be getting around to them anyway.
Most of it's going on in my head the last few months haha, too busy or when time too lazy to get onto things anyway. But eh , it's all happening in my head right , just gotta start transferring that into reality haha but at least l'm armed with the what too's when l do right.
Matter of fact l've got two jobs l planned for over my time off, 1 is finish painting my new porch but actually l might swap that one for the fly screens little devils are driving my gf mad, And the other is hopefully build finally, my back fence, Amazing really being the very private person that l am l've put up with no back fence for 2 yrs. mind you it's been torture but anyway l finally bought the materials last week so l've got no excuses now right.
But above all else l need a damn good rest sooooo, we won't be breaking any records any time soon haha.
Besides nope haven't got around to grabbing the roller tool yet butttt, it's on the pad .
Thanks a million as always mate and l hope your having a nice Christmas.
All the best

Hello RX, hope the person behind you has gone halves with the fence and hopefully help you in installing it.
You could leave the flyscreens the size they are and just screw them to the windows, or weatherboards, this would only need 2 screws.
Best wishes.

Funny thing Geoff , the other night it was gonna be such a beautiful summer evening l thought ok , l want those screens on how nice is it going to be sleeping with the window open. l know they probably can't do that in Melbourne anymore but we should be pretty right here with windows open through the night.
Shot out to the garage rounded them all up and got started. An hour later l had the 3main screens refitted and on, lounge kitchen and main bedroom. Must say , did a nice job too. Turned out these screens didn't come apart with the wire off but the had corner inserts so a tap on the ends popped them out then l just cut the new height and popped them back in. Your right so easy so thanks again. Bedrooms been beautiful with the summer breeze coming through of a night.
Today l'm gonna start finishing my new porch.
Yeah all sorted with the neighbours and the fence and yesterday l hit my brother up for a hand and he can't wait to get stuck into it. So l can't wait to get onto that either now.
It really inspires you once ya start getting something done doesn't it.
Cheers .

Hello RX, well done.
Some of the old flywire screens didn't have the corner inserts which made them twist and were awkward to handle, but I'm wrapped they have.
If the flywire is in fairly good nick but dirty, you can also buy a flywire cleaner, see how you go, no more 'I'm Louie the Fly straight from rubbish tip to you'.
Yes once you get going it feels good.
Best wishes.
