Your quest to relax need not be a daunting one.

Back in 1987 I scoffed internally when my therapist had me ly down and he staryed by saying "listen to the traffic, the meducal staff etc. Then he began his instructions

"Tension up your toes" 15 sevonds later "release that tension"

And on and on he went...calfs, knees, thighs right up to include head and face muscles. Then finish by tensioning up all muscles for 30 seconds. Then silence for 5 minutes.

I continue to do this every night before sleeping and its largely responsible for getting me to sleep.

A set of headphones and relaxing music from this thread and you are on your way.

Your pulse will slow down, rarely you'll even feel so slowed down a sort of "out of body" feeling occurs where your whole body feels numb.

I love it.

Tony,

this is a great thread. It will help a lot of people.

I will recommend it especially to new poster.

I will look up Maharaji.

Thanks

Quirky

Hi Quirky

Maharaji, real name Prem Rawat first came to fame at 9yo. He attended a funeral in his Indian village for a respected elder. As people mourned, he climbed a tall fence and yelled out "stop crying, cellebrate this mans life" etc. By 13yo he was on television.

He is not a religious peddler but he travels the world with wisdom and common sense. Nobody has had a greater impact on my outlook on life than this man..

He has lots of youtube clips but in 1989 it was only cassettes lol.

While I have not tried those listed above, if I am reading I will also have "relax melodies" playing on my mobile which actually transports me (my mind) somewhere else. For me, I layer cavern, wind, and rain sounds. I was skeptical initially but the DO work.

Hi White Knight,

I am starting to use meditation as a way to calm when my anxiety is high and I must admit it really does help. I find there are some great mobile apps out there. Some have relaxing music and others have guided meditations. I used one the other night and started to fall asleep. I am also looking at meditation classes.
