New anxiety symptom -metallic smell

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has ever experienced a metallic almost blood like smell/taste whilst they are experiencing high levels of anxiety..

i had this symptom come out of nowhere after dealing with anxiety for years.. the smell isnt chronic its only happend twice or 3 time in the last 2weeks but comes on for a few seconds during high anxiety.

i was taken to the hospital last week because of this because i thought it was a stroke symptom but was reassured its not however the doctor could not give any reason for it. Hoping someone here has also experienced it with their anxiety so i can calm myself and believe it is yet another symptom of the long list.

I should also mention ive been lightheaded the last week.

Have you started any new medication or have your current medication adjusted recently? Some medication may bring on a metallic taste in mouth. Otherwise, it is likely another symptom of anxiety. I personally have not experienced any weird taste in my mouth when I was anxious, but I did experience change in sense of smell. Whenever I got stressed out for an extended period of time, I must develop an aversion to an innocent daily smell. Once it was my classmate eating a cheesy creamy pasta in a lecture hall not long before the exam period. The smell bothered me to the extent that I had to leave the lecture hall halfway through or I would get sick. Other students did not seem to be affected and was comfortable with him eating the pasta. Since then, it took me quite a while before I could tolerate any smell of cheese. I used to add cheese to any pasta that I cooked, but not anymore since that incident.

Thanks for the reply! Nope no change in medications. Ahh strange yeh what yoi describe sounds a little different. I kinda made a smell up out of nowhere with my anxiety which is called olfactory hallucination though maybe the link in increased sense of smell and hallucination is relevant

Anyway i went to the doctor today and he suggested i get an EEG test done for my brain hes concerned i may have temporal lobe epilepsy.

hello Wizzyg, I was interested in your thread topic and even more so after your doctor's diagnosis, so is it possible to google this 'temporal lobe epilepsy and smell', and I only say this because I've had grand mal seizures as I'm an epileptic.
Hope you can get back to me. Geoff.

Hey geoff thanks for the reply! Yes ive googled temporal lobe epilepsy and smell and i understand you can get a wierd smell as an aura that would warn you of an incoming seizure. I have 1 or 2 questions for you if you dont mind since you have had todeal with epilepsy.

First do you get a wierd smell before a seizure if so what type is it?

Have you experienced these 'auras' before.

Was there any particular reason you werre interested in my post? Did it sound familiar to your experience?

hi Wizzyg, I responded to your post because there was only a post that had replied, and once temporal lobe epilepsy was mentioned it raised my ears.
I wish I could remember, but with grand mal seizures, you just collapse before you know what's happening, as these are the worst because once you try and recover you have a bad taste in your mouth, which I can't remember, but you don't know where you are, who is PM or what year it is, so there was a bad taste. Geoff.
