I'm so afraid we won't have space in Australia and we will never be able to have a house with a yard

I know it sounds completely insane, and I am on some new medication so maybe I am going crazy at the moment; but I am so scared that we are becoming so overpopulated that we are all forced to live in small apartments in the future.
The more people, the more houses will be destroyed and replaced with giant sky scrapers...all i wished for in life was to have a house and a garden and peace and quiet and it seems we won't get this at all anymore...
I am getting more and more anxious about the future, especially how everyone is encouraging bringing more people into the country, it is driving me insane!
Not to mention it will all become too expensive to the point we won't be able to afford a house anymore 😞 I just want a home and a big dog, why is something so simple now impossible to have in this day and age?

Hi Jessksch,
Thank you for your post. Even if it feels a bit silly, this is something many of us can relate to and it’s completely understandable that these thoughts can be distressing.
It makes sense to feel this way. Whether it’s social media or the news, the constant narrative around the cost of living, housing challenges, and growing cities can feel overwhelming and leave us feeling helpless about the future.
If you notice certain triggers that intensify these feelings, it might be helpful to take a break from them, especially during times when you're feeling more vulnerable. Not necessarily avoiding them altogether, but giving yourself space when needed.
Is there something grounding you can do for yourself when these feelings arise? When things feel big and overwhelming, even small acts of self-care can help bring a sense of calm and control. It might not solve the bigger issues, but it can make a difference in how we cope with them.
If you’d ever like to talk things through with our Support Service, our mental health counsellors are available online http://www.beyondblue.org.au/getsupport or over the phone on 1300 22 4636.
Feel free to share how you’ve been travelling this week, and if anything has helped. We’re here to support you and to remind you that you’re not alone 💙
Kind regards,
Sophie M

Thank you so much for the reply, I really appreciate it.
I have been doing better and avoiding social media, though it is so hard some times since the media is everywhere now, but I think that is the best course of action.

Hi Jessksch
I’m just popping in to let you know that you’re not alone.
I don’t think your worries are “insane” or “crazy” at all. I also worry about the lack of housing and housing affordability and the impact these issues are having on people.
I fully support Sophie’s suggestion to disengage from your triggers, and I’m so glad to learn that you’re doing better this week.
