Anyone else suffering from depersonalisation, I have had it for a few months now and it's the worse mental health disording imaginable. Really needs to be recognised and talked about a lot more as it's rare.

Hello Ben.k,

Depersonalisation sounds really difficult to cope with. Would you like to tell us more about what you mean by it?

I have recurring bouts but I'd love to hear from you what your symptoms feel like as we sometimes call different things by the same name.

hi Ben.k, I think you've raised a very good point here, depersonalisation, because it can be part of another mental disorder, dissociation and perhaps this may include anxiety, stress and depression.
Sometimes 'there is no escape from trauma and the only option left open to people is to escape from themselves, mentally.'
'People with major depressive disorder may experience symptoms of dissociation; secondly, people who suffer from a dissociative disorder may also suffer from depression and anxiety symptoms', quote from a health site and not my words.
Emotionally it can make you feel as though you have no friends and live in a different world, or maybe the world seems different to you.
I hope this topic continues because I'm sure many of us have been there ourselves. Geoff.

I get frequent bouts of depersonalisation. Where I am even though I wish to be part of the community I often feel it doesn't want me nor does my family. Yet I know I have things to offer of great value.

Hi ben.

Im also suffering from depersonalization.

Just wanted to wish you well and remind you everything is temporary. It has come and gone before and it will do so again 🙂

Hi James,

Sorry for the late reply. Anyways, id elaborate and tell you where I am at and future ahead of me etc... So, as to this day I still suffer from now the depersonalisation/derealisation disorder (DDD). It is now a disorder that I have developed as i have now had it for a such long period of time, 24/7 and constantly throughout the day experiencing the symptoms that relate to the disorder, for example: Feeling that your not talking when you talk, when in public you feel your in a dream and disconnected from reality where I feel that if I were to yell out something crazy I wouldn't care because I feel so disconnected from life it will just be a dream to me, I also feel like I am not moving my body, more like I'm in the back of my head (robot like). I know I am in there, and I'm screaming at the back of my brain to be realised from this disorder, which only affects 2% of the population globally. I have hope that ill eventually be cured which I know I will, and to have dealt with this pain for nearly 2 years, I know I can continue until it goes away. I one day wish there will be a specific cure for this disorder, however since it is so rare doctors and medical experts have not focused on providing a cure. However the only way is to basically deal with it, with medication, therapy and productivity and eventually it just goes away. One day I wish I could contribute to discovering a cure for this painful mental disorder or to be alive when a cure has been found. Overall what I'm trying to say is one: I wish more the disorder created more awareness around the world and the fact that it can take years to go away is ridiculous and can ruin or severally affective ur life for when u a suffering from it.

Thanks, Ben.

Hello Ben

That is okay

I hope you get this message because I am in the airport with dodgy internet

it sounds like you are feeling very disconnected right now. I wish I knew how to help you feel more real and less like you are in the back of your head. To me, the words you are saying and the feelings you are expressing are very real indeed, and they remind me of my own time a couple years back

speaking about cures, have you found anything that has helped you in the last 10 months since we spoke? What used to help me was walking around barefoot or really trying to listen to music

Hello Ben

that is okay

I can really hear that you feel so disconnected and I wish I knew how to help you feel less like you are in the back of your head. It really sucks to feel not real especially since it sounds like that feeling you speak about is so real.

Your words remind me a lot of my own experiences a couple of years back and I am so sad to hear that you still feel just as ill as before. Have you found anything that has helped, even briefly, to bring a bit more reality into your world? I used to walk around barefoot outside, and it would bring a little bit of the world back into my head.

Hi James,

There is really no psychology help towards the disorder that can help me come back to reality partially, however its really a matter of dealing and realising what you have, which eventually in most situations you'll always feel it but you ignore it. Its now a mattar of time with the help of my medications and myself for it to eventually go away:)

hello ben.k

It is nice to hear from you again.

I am glad to hear that you feel like your medications may be able to help it go away. Also you make a really great point about just realising what you have and not ignoring it, but really trying to deal with it.

Often we push away things as a self-preservation strategy, but doing so may actually hurt us in the long term.

Anyway, I hope you are doing better at the moment and that the depersonalisation goes away soon. Feel free to post again. It'd be great to hear from you again.

James
