Won't stop crying

Lately I've been crying a lot more than usual, and I'm starting to worry about my mental health; I'm not certain but I think I may be suffering from depression or be at risk of suffering from depression, this isn't my first time in this situation though I've seen a few psychologists and counsellors in the past.

I have no energy to pull myself out of bed in the mornings, lack the motivation to do most things, am constantly tired, I'm extremely irritable and snap at anything, I'm unable to concentrate or remember stuff, I literally have a headache all day everyday, I keep breaking down into tears, always feel guilty/miserable/frustrated and overall just feel like absolute shit all the time.

Does anyone think I should go seek help from my local GP or am I just overreacting?

Hi lovely welcome xx nice to meet you xx yes that is the best thing you can do for yourself right now you are by no means overeacting this is what depression does to a person im thinking kinda your mood might need to be stabilized as well. A visit to the gp won't hurt it will help you get some answers and possibly further referrals xx glad to have spoken with you please do keep posting on here we are all here for you xx Venessa

Hey, welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry to hear that it's been tough for you emotionally. It's great that you are being proactive about help-seeking - and yes, I think it's important to see your doctor (GP). You are definitely not overreacting. The earlier you get help, the better.

Best wishes,

Zeal

HI pessimist. I think what Zeal and Fairwings has said is great advice. Being proactive and seeing a GP is a great idea. I'm also sorry to hear you are having some distress. I know how terrible it can be to feel that way. Especially being unsure if you should see someone about it. In my experience it is always better to see a GP rather than not. Even if they think you are mentally well then that is good news. If they have some concerns they you will be able to address it. I try and think about it like this. If I am concerned because I have a chesty cough I would see my dr. It could be just the common cold or it could be a chest infection. I won't know until they check it out. Am I wasting the dr time or my time if it is just a cold? No because it is better to know so whatever it is you can treat it properly, a chest infection needs antibiotics and a cold just needs monitoring. Don't feel guilty for how you feel and don't feel guilty or concerned about seeing a doctor. Depression/anxiety is no ones fault and it can affect anyone. I think it is something you should investigate because the only thing you will get form it is more information which in turn will help you through this tough time. If you are not sure where to go I suggest you go to your local GP and book an appointment for a mental health plan. This will ensure you get a long appointment so they have time to go over everything. This also allows you to see a psychologist 6 times in a year for free/low cost. You can also access a youth mental health service called headspace (google to see if there is a local centre near you) if this is something you feel more comfortable doing. They also have an internet service called eheadspace that you can get online counselling and support from as well.

Hope this helps - Purple

I agree with all of what the others have said, first step would be a gp, they can set you up and may even recomend a further help for you.

My experience is that anxiety and depression can be triggered by many things and getting help will allow you to recognise what these triggers are and how to deal and calm yourself after, mindfulness is an excellent way to start.

The important thing to remember is that you are not alone and there are heaps of people on these forums who have walked the path you are currently on before and can help you through.

I am quite nervous but at the same time kinda happy, that I've gone to my local GP to seek guidance and now with the help of a psychologist and a little CBT, I can finally say I'm on the road to recovery.

Hey again,

Sorry about the long delay - I guess things just got in the way! That rhymed 😛

It's understandable that you are a bit nervous. I'm glad you are receiving good personalised support from a psychologist! Keep up the progress 😄

Best wishes,

Zeal
