Trouble with sleep

Hi all,

I have found I am feeling much happier lately. Study is going well, work is going well, and I am back to riding my horse! It is just a struggle to try and do them sometimes because of how tired I am all the time.

I usually go to bed about 7.30 and sleep until about 6.30 but I wake up constantly throughout the night and sometimes it takes me a few hours to get to sleep. I also nap during the day a lot. Sometimes up to 2 hours. My Mum says I get too much sleep and that is making me tired, could this be possible? If so, is there anyone who knows how I can fix this. Any advice on how to get a good night sleep is 100% welcome!!! It is getting worse 😞    Thank you in advance. Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Go to your doctor and tell him/her of the problem. The doctor is likely to advise you to undertake a sleep study. You'll stay overnight at a place where you'll have wires attached to you to monitor your breathing among other things to determine why you are waking up.

In my case I had sleep apnoea a condition that meant I stopped breathing several times within every hour. That meant I was causing all sorts of medical conditions and eventually had to have a breathing mask called a CPAP. Without this machine that helps me breath continuously I could have a shorter life span.

I cant diagnose your condition and it might purely mean you have growth spirts happening etc but your doctor should be consulted.

It is important you do this.

Hi white knight,

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking about telling my psychiatrist or psychologist but never got around to it when I was there last week. It was especially horrible when I woke the other night almost gasping for air which made me quite scared. I will talk with them about it when I see them next week. I think it is quite common with anxiety disorders so didn't think it was necessary to bring up.

Thank you again
