My name is Liz , I'm currently 20 years old and I have always had an underlying sense that something about my mental health hasn't been quite right. But just recently in the last few years and especially the past 6-8 months I've been finding that it's starting to really affect my life and relationships. I can still function day to day and I'm in no way physically unhealthy, but recently I've found that nothing makes me happy, I'm the most irritable I've ever been and I feel like there is no one around me I can talk to. I have developed trust issues with everyone including my partner and family. This isn't something I talk about with anyone openly and I guess what I need is just a bit of guidance and someone to talk to.

Hi felizabeth

Welcome and good on you for posting too!

The forums are a judgement free zone and safe place to post. It takes a lot of strength to do so

Sometimes when we feel this low and our relationships are being effected it can be a huge help to have a chat to a GP. They have the training to help you part the dark clouds and find some peace in your life.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by seeing your GP or a counselor. They really can help when our thinking goes astray (which everyone's does)

Your quality of life is paramount. Maybe make a double appointment so your doc can help you even better

I really hope you can post back and let us know how you go 🙂

my kind thoughts for you

Paul

have you considered speaking to your gp about a mental health plan and seeing a psychologist to help you work through some of the issues that are bothing you?

Hey Liz,

Welcome to the forum!

Like Paul and startingnew have mentioned, seeing your doctor (GP) is a good idea. The earlier you seek help, the better. There are fact sheets on mental health conditions and staying well on this Beyondblue website. It would be great for you to work towards telling your partner and a few close family members that you are in a difficult headspace right now (obviously use your words). For general tips on talking to others about mental illness, check out this link: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/have-the-conversation/talk-about-it#findwords

If you are studying at TAFE or uni, counselling appointments are usually free for students. This is a good option when you need to talk to someone in-between seeing your doctor.

It would be great to hear back from you 🙂

Best wishes,

Zeal
