I've been struggling for the past 6 months with really
bad depression. I've tried to go through with suicide 3 times before I was hospitalised.
I've tried so many different medications but I don't feel any help.
I see a psych weekly.
I have no family and I feel like I'm pulling my friends under who have been trying to hold me afloat for the past few months.
I'm exhausted. I feel like I can't keep holding on and I'm at my wits end.
I don't have any plans and I don't want to go back to hospital.
I just don't know what the next step is 😞 how do you get through this?
beyondblue's clinically-trained moderators often work offline (invisible to you) on issues relating to suicide or self-harm. At the same time, general supportive comments from the community are encouraged. If you have concerns around suicide or self-harm, please phone our support service on 1300 22 4636.

Hi Bonnie, welcome to Beyond Blue forums.
I dont have many answers to your question. I encourage you to read up here on the many threads on recovery and depression. I wrote one a while ago about "back to basics" that might assist.
What I do know is its almost impossible to see clearly that things will improve when under that depressive cloud. Remember that please.
And post as often as you feel the need. We are listening. In the meantime read as much as you can.

HI Bonnie_92,
Welcome, and thank you for joining us here.
What you're experiencing isn't uncommon, however your thoughts and actions are very serious and need to be managed accordingly. I have also been where you are a number of times over the past 20 years, and I know how desperate you can become.
I wanted to ask if there's a reason why you don't want to go back into hospital? Also when you say Psych do you mean a Psychologist or Psychiatrist? It might be worthwhile seeing both, as they work in different ways. Also what self help strategies have you tried before in addition to medication?
As WK has suggested, you may find it useful to read some of the other threads on the forums that are relevant to your situation.
1. Under Depression - "SELF HELP TIPS FOR MANAGING DEPRESSION"
2. Under Treatments - "TIPS FOR SURFING URGES"
I look forward to hearing more from you, and want to let you know that we are here to support you however we can. You are not alone now, you have us.
Sending you a virtual hug, because I think you need it right now. xx
AGrace

dear Bonnie, I want to thank you so much for wanting to contact us, because your situation is a very serious one, and certainly one of the many that need our immediate attention, just like others do, but at the moment we are concentrating on this post of yours.
Although we do suggest that you talk to family and/or friends when you are deep in depression but sometimes we get too many different view points, all giving you support ( which in theory is always good), however it maybe too complex as each one has a different suggestion, so in actual fact it can be confusing, as A says do this, while F says sometime try this, so it leaves you up in the air as to what to believe, so basically you then don't believe any one of their opinions.
So this puts into a situation where there maybe one friend who both you and him/her have struggled over the years, but have both 'ridden the storm' together and still come out as true friends, so what I am saying is to only talk to this person, because this is another storm to ride.
I would also like you to click onto 'get support' at the top of this page where there will be a list of doctors who are aligned to Beyond Blue and help those who feel the way you do, deeply affected by depression.
If you can do this then they will refer you to another psych, because I think it's time to change the counsellor, and I do gather that at the moment you are visiting a psychiatrist, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
I do know that these psych's will prescribe the medication they think is right for you, and only because all their patients he/she has put them all on, where there is no flexibility, and when I saw these psych's I was told that the medication should be working so stay on it for a bit longer.
I am one person who prefers seeing psychologists whereas other people are different and prefer psychiatrists, but that's a personal matter, so what I am saying is that this person hasn't kept you out of hospital, so you need to change camps.
I hope that you can get back to us. Geoff.

I don't want to go back into hospital as I hated it. Hate being away from my pets who are very important to me.
I see a psychologit as I'm unable to find a psychiatrist who bulk bills.. Not sure how people find the cash they charge
Thanks I'll have a read through the forum.
I don't have any family support but do have a great group of friends..
I don't really have any techniques.. If I'm having thoughts of SH or suicide I try to paint or draw.. doesn't always work though. The SH is an 8 year habit and one I'm scared I'll never be able to break
