Needing some advice

Do you ever feel like everything that goes bad goes bad all at once?

in the last week I was fired from my job, my account became overdrawn by hundreds, my partner became distant from me and my pet has gotten sick.

Its all started to weigh on me very much, I don't sleep and I can hardly eat and I'm getting to the point where I struggle to leave the house or even bed for that matter.

the town I live in its very difficult to find any kind of work so no matter how hard I try I can't even pay my bills and that only makes things worse, I have to rely on my partner or my family for support even for simple things like groceries and I've started to receive letters from debt collectors, I feel stupid saying that I've even considered the go fund me website for help but I know that there are people who are far more desperate than myself.

im starting to drown in debt as well as my depression and I just don't know what to do.

P.s. I apologies for rambling or not making sense.

Hi Milly, welcome here

I'm 60yo. If I told you I lost count of the times I was in your situation it might be unbelievable. True. But it was all prior to 40yo. During the years of 17 and 40yo I was always vulnerable with finances. Why?

Some of it is bad luck eg getting fired from your job. Other things that contribute is poor financial planning and lets face it, most of us are never taught how to be thrifty when young. Handling finances is a bit like becoming a parent- many people think its a case of these things becoming automatic but we really need to plan and learn how.

So, having said that, in your case at this time, the best thing you can do is to communicate with your debtors to ask for extensions of time to pay. If that is possible then all cards are on the table in that you have to consider moving to another town where work is more available. Seek shared accommodation to keep costs down.

You'll need to prioritise your income. eg short term, medium term and long term goals. Budget!!. Rent, the roof over your head is priority number 1. Food number 2 and so on. If you run out of food than don't feel embarrassed and seek out an organisation like the salvation army to get a voucher.

But please do realise your situation isn't a rare one. Bad luck does come in 3's as the saying goes.

Hope that helps. Keep your chin up. These event is part of life and it will make you stronger.

Hi Milly

Thanks for having the courage to post.

Like Tony has said...Your situation is (unfortunately) so common. I have also been terminated from my work (which I loved) and have been in the same situation.

Relying on your partner and family does feel awful...Accept their help and dont forget that they may need your help in the future too Milly and you will be in a better position by then to help them out...You are very lucky to have a partner and family to help you right now...I think they are really great by extending their help to you.

It means they care about you okay? I understand about receiving help...because of pride and thats fine except right know pride will be of no assistance to you whatsoever. Accept the help you have been offered..

These forums are very secure and you are very welcome to respond...we are here for you Milly

For every problem there is a Solution....
