Lost

I don't know who I am, who to trust or who to be anymore. I don't know if I should open up or close up, trust people or get through it on my own. People rarely keep things to themselves these days leading to many rumours. Should I open up? Has anyone else been in my situation, the decision to keep to myself or to trust again? Because I don't know anymore.

Hey Summ Wayt

Oh you do sound so lost, just like you title heading. I'm so sorry.

To not know who you are, well I feel like that too. And I don't know how you even find out....

The choice of trusting someone is sometimes not an easy decision. But from my experience here on Beyond Blue, people are pretty kind and seem to really care and want to help. I think it may be actually easier to pour out your heart or whatever to strangers here.

To open up, yeah that does feel a little scary, especially if you are not used to doing that.

Well I just wanted to say a warm hello and welcome you.

Hugs

dear Summ Wayt, a good question, because I'm sure this is something that goes through many people's mind.

When we open up to friends they may listen once or twice, but then decide to vanish, out of contact, however rumours are always plentiful and can escalate into great proportions, mostly all untrue, and when we hear about them then this could greatly upset us and then pushing us deeper into our depression.

To be able to trust someone is something which we hope could happen, but unfortunately we don't know until the time comes along and ask them for help, but there are times when we are disappointed, or they may listen but then start to spread the rumours, asking the person not to tell anyone, and to keep quite.

If you see a doctor and/or psych then everything is confidential, so these are the people who you can trust, I also hope that this forum is a place where you can trust us, because all of us have been through or still going through the battle to overcome depression, in other words we know what this illness will do to you or anybody else, because we have been to hell and back, not only once but several times.

If you have a close family member or a friend who you do believe will help you then tell them, because you may need some help to go and see your doctor, but I hope that you will come back to us, because we do want to help you. Geoff.
