Is there something wrong or am I overreacting?

Hey whoever is reading this. For a couple of months now I think I've started to see signs of depression coming through but I'm not sure if they're genuine or if I'm just overreacting to normal teenage stuff or what's going on...

Around half way through last year I began feeling really tired all the time, I didn't want to hang out with my friends and family, I just really wanted to be alone. But when I'm alone I don't feel good, if that makes sense, I feel like crap. Over the past school holidays I thought it would go away because I believed it was merely school causing the issues, but it didn't.

I have felt like this for ages now and I'm genuinely sick of it. The reason I waited until now to say anything is because I'm unsure as to whether or not any of it is genuine. There's other stuff going on too but it's kinda just my imagination I'm pretty sure.

My social and family life are all perfectly fine, I've just been really down.

So, is this just because I'm a teenager, or should I ask to get proper help?

 thank you.

dear Adsbad, hello and nice to be able to talk with you.
Depression can come on suddenly or it can come on gradually, no one knows or circumstances could predetermine which one
actually happens.
Being tired may not mean that you have depression, however when you just want to be by yourself away from your friends
is an indication that you're not happy, and if you don't feel good when you are alone may mean that you are having
negative thoughts which can also mean that depression has hit you.
People will try and say that as you are growing up then your hormones are rapidly changing, true to a degree and this
certainly can't be ruled out, but there is a test to see if you do have depression and it's called the K-10 test so
just google it and see what score you get.
I don't know what else you are trying to cope with at the moment and perhaps this maybe causing you to feel tired
and worn out, but I would like you to do the test first.
Whatever your score is then this is where you need to tell your parents, if you feel comfortable doing this, but even
if your score is middle range it still would be a good idea to see your doctor as you are facing a new year at school.
I hope that you can get back to us. Geoff.

Thanks Geoff. I'll take the test and see how it goes from there.
