I'm 14 years old and I want to go see a GP and get assessed for depression but I can't without my mum knowing and I don't want her to know. She doesn't know that I'm having a tough time at home and school, that I cant sleep anymore, I don't eat as much as I used to and that I want to give up. Is there anyway I could see a GP without her knowing?

Thank you for your recent post to the beyondblue community forums. Although you feel you are going through a difficult time at home and with school, we are happy to know that you are reaching out for support and help. We do encourage you to make an appointment with a GP as it would be very beneficial for you during this time.
It must be hard to express how you are feeling to your mother, but perhaps by telling your mother or a trusted adult about how you are feeling can be very helpful. If you want to make an appointment with your GP, you can book in an appointment either by phoning or dropping into their medical practice. All doctors have to keep information about their patients private, unless they feel you may harm yourself or someone else, then they have a duty of care to make sure you are safe. You could also visit your closest Headspace Centre, which do have GPs available as well as counselling services.
Here is a link to their website with all the information on booking appointments and the steps to seeing a GP: http://www.headspace.org.au/is-it-just-me/getting-help/help-from-a-gp
If you feel you are having thoughts of harming yourself or have intentions for harming yourself it is important that you take immediate steps to keep yourself safe. We encourage you to call the beyondblue Support Service on 1300 22 4636. We can help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with counselling support, information and referrals. We also have a webchat service available from 3pm to 12 am daily, which you can access from the beyondblue website.
We are here to support you and are glad to know you have found some helpful responses and support here online. Please stay in touch.

Hi Guest,
I have a feeling I may have replied to another of your threads. I just wanted to check in and see whether you managed to get to a GP? How are you travelling? Speaking from experience I know how challenging it can be dealing with mental health at such a young age. There's definitely help available for you. Did you end up visiting the Headspace site? I know they have a lot of helpful services for teens.
I hope you will update us, and that you've been able to take some steps toward getting some support.
