Hey everyone. Liam here. I'm 20, soon to be 21, um, the reason I'm posting here is, if anyone doesn't know, I've been trying to get more friends, and after a long time of debating, I realise now that I want a girlfriend, to date, but NOT to have sex with. I want to make that very clear. What I want in a girlfriend is I want someone to hang out with as a very close friend, sort of like my male best friend, I want this girl to be able to come with me to family gatherings or when we visit family, I want someone chatty but also gentle, soft and sweet at the same time, and finally, and this is the most important one, I want to be able to receive hugs from this girl whenever I can.

Hey guys...Liam here. It's been a while, but long story short...I feel like my girl mate (Girl who is JUST A FRIEND, AND NOTHING MORE) is ignoring or rejecting me...I know this is a place for mental health and not friend advice but I'm feeling severely sad as I thought she was the one...but she's not...I've been trying over and over and over and over and over again to find that girl...and it didn't work out...my first girl mate...she's too quiet and not chatty, we tried dating but it didn't work out...so I broke up with her...then my second one, she was too obessed with her stuff and not focusing on me at all...and my third one...she's willing to give me a hug when I need it, but apart from that...even though she's chatty, she's ignoring my phone calls and messages...I'm crying right now...can you guys please comfort me... *Crying* 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Hey guys. Liam here. So I’ve finally figured out what it is that I am looking for. I’m looking for a platonic relationship. Basically, a platonic relationship is a close, non romantic bond that provides emotional intimacy, trust and support without any sexual or romantic involvement. So as you can see, THIS is what I’m looking for. Also if anyone is curious, I’m 21.

Hi, welcome
Primarily we are an anonymous mental health support and advisory forum with members and community champions that offer guidance to those that need it. I'm not sure if you realise that. Regardless I think I can give some ideas.
In effect it seems you are seeking a non romantic soul mate. This type of friend in my lived experience isnt the sort of person you find by looking for them, more a drawn life of common interests that usually comes about after meeting many people.
I've longed believed my wife of 15 years and I are soul mates, brought about with those common interested- love of animals, camping, writing, my daughter that my wife knew since birth through family and so on. So I suggest listing all your interests like sports, hobbies etc and attending those places to mix in with those people. My one concern is that often such a person can be looking for something more or less of the relationship eg more romance or less so than what you seek yourself.
I wouldnt rule out computer dating, that how my daughter found her husband and they are very happy. It's how you control those apps that matters, stipulate exactly what you want.
Good luck

Hey Liam, it sounds like you’ve done a bit of thinking and have finally put into words the kind of connection you’re looking for 😊 Having someone you can genuinely talk to, trust and feel comfortable around without any romantic expectations can be really valuable.
I hope you’re able to find some good people and build those kinds of friendships. Sometimes joining groups or activities around things you already enjoy can be a nice way to meet people naturally too. Wishing you all the best 💛
