My friend is unsure whether they have depression. The beyondblue chat is currently closed so I offered to be like a helped and talk to them about their situation. Except I don't know what to say. I just need something that will make them feel better until the beyondblue chat opens again. This person feels they were born in the wrong body and have developed anorexia. They feel upset about they're body and are feeling down. Please help!!

hello, thank you for taking on this responsibility because it must mean a great deal to this person, so you are probably very close and can feel their anguish.
Obviously he/she is depressed which may have happened to begin with, or it could be as a result of how they are feeling, sometimes it's difficult to actually know, however this is where they are now.
This person can never be changed back into being a male and thinking they are a male, because the confusion or doubt will always be there, so they will always be questioning themselves, however there is no blame here.
What this is called is 'Gender dysphoria which used to be known as gender identity disorder', and please I'm a bit out of depth here, even though I will continue.
Can I get you to google 'why do people feel as though they were born in the wrong body' as there are many discussions that may interest the both of you, especially 'born in the wrong body'
What I can understand is that the anorexia is well and truly related to their gender dysphoria because they want to be in the body who they are thinking about, perhaps for example if this person is a male and wants to be a female then they want to in the same size that a female has.
By talking with them there would be no point into trying to talk them out of how they are feeling, because if you try to then they will just close up and not to discuss this anymore.
I will leave this now and hope that those who are involved themselves maybe better in helping you.Geoff.
