how do I stop feeling so anxious?

I always feel anxious and I'm scared of the future, instead of being excited for it. I ruin everything by being scared and I hate it. everything is so daunting to me, people know I am a cautious person, but they don't know the extreme thoughts and the worry I think everyday and night. I just want to think positive for once, but how?

I struggle a lot with anxiety, I have done for a few years now, I can relate to what your feeling..I went to my gp and told her how I was feeling, she listened and helped me by putting me on some meds and referred me to professionals, who have helped with my anxiety. maybe this is something you could consider for yourself..

Anxiety is horrible and spoils things that we should be enjoying, when mine gets to bad I'll try some deep breathing in for 1-2-3-4-5-...out for 5-4-3-2-1-.. keepbdoing this until you feel calmer..

Do you have things that you enjoy doing that you need to concerned on, like reading, playing internet games, sewing, just something to take your mind away from your anxiety and your negative thoughts..Our minds can only have one thought at a time, distraction works by taking our mind of negativity for a while and gives your mind a little rest..

Maybe take a. Look around the forums if you feel to, there are a few threads on anxiety that may help you..justsearch anxiety in the. Search bar at the top right hand. Corner of this page..

Hi,

As Grandy has already said, welcome! I hope you find support here.

I also suffer from anxiety. I have for a few years but it's just started getting worse. I dread the future, which stops me from doing things, I dwell on the past, which makes me depressed (I struggle with depression too) but I can never seem to focus on the present. I can only do this during a mindfulness practice.

Mindfulness is a really good way to calm anxiety. I try and do 10 minutes every day if possible. If you haven't already, you should do some meditation. See if it works for you.

The people surrounding me know about my anxiety... To some extent. Like what you said, they don't know the extreme thoughts or the constant worrying. They don't understand what it's like to have a constant, squirming feeling of dread in your stomach. And it's not just a little but if butterflies.

I agree with Grandy; get yourself to your GP. They can refer you to a professional.

In the meantime have a little poke around on the forums, might be other threads that help you.

all the best
