HONESTLY, It does get better!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to start a positive thread by sharing my successes with you!

A couple of months ago my anxiety and depression really got low. I landed in a bad place which involved me having talking to the crisis team at the hospital. That little incident was so embarrassing for me as I felt I had let my family down but more importantly, myself. The best outcome came from this experience though. I realised that I didn't want to ever be in that state of mind again!

Since then, I have been improving every day. I started seeing my psychiatrist more, I was seeing my psychologist, and I was attending an anxiety management group. Finally, we have found a combination of medications that is helping me too.

I never used to remember what was said in my appointments because I was so worked up and cried my way through them. Now, I can listen and take home what I have learnt. Slowly, I have been putting everything into practice and it is certainly paying off!

I am still such a little worrier, but I am confident that with more practice I will better be able to manage it.

I will start with my biggest achievement. It was the last day of my 10 week group and I had not stayed once for lunch. Well on the last day a lovely lady encouraged me to. I was so nervous even though I knew everyone quite well by that stage. I could hardly put rice on my plate and the vegetable because my hands were shaking so much. But I GOT THROUGH IT!!!! I was so proud of myself that I immediately had to call my Mum and tell her and let my psychiatrist know too. 🙂

Another awesome moment was asking if anyone was sitting in a chair at the table next to my family. They said no and that I could take it. I took it back to my table and high fives all around!! They probably thought we were crazy.

I have enrolled myself in a short cake decorating course!

I went to the city with my younger sisters without having to have mum there!

My goals for the future are to start my course again which I withdrew from to focus on my recovery, and get back to my part time job at the vet clinic. But for now I m happy with my other job at a fresh food market and focusing on achieving little things.

I would love it if you read this, to please share your successes! As you can see, mine are everyday sort of things for a lot of people, but hey, I am so proud of myself!

Kelly 🙂

That's terrific Kelly, congratulations. You have had many successes and realisations and you have proven to yourself that you can take risks and come through. You have changed your view of your self, focusing on where you want to head, not committing to being stuck somewhere. Well done, keep it up!

Hi Kelly!

That is awesome! Congrats! Thank you for sharing your story, it is refreshing to see such positivity amongst the forum posts.

I recently made a remarkable achievement of passing one year clean of self harm - something I was severely addicted to during the worst of my illness. Since then, I have managed to turn my entire life around, just like you are doing right now. Well done on your fantastic efforts! You should be so proud of yourself!
