Hey guys, this is my first post sorry if it's something you've heard before
so my girlfriend of 10 months has been diagnosed with depression about 2 months ago she also has type 1 diabetes, addisons disease and hypothyroidism, everything was going great talking everyday messaging all the time seeing each other a lot and then one day 2 weeks ago she just didn't reply or answer her phone the next morning she said she just wanted to be alone, I told her that I felt really worried after a couple more days I said that it was making me miserable that she is shutting me out she replied just move on be happy I'm too stuffed up, I told that's not what I want since then we have spoken once, I've been trying to make her feel special sending her messages telling her that it's ok to feel how she feels and that I'm always here for he and I sent her some flowers I just don't know what to do should I just leave her alone until she is ready to talk or should I keep trying to help her feel better?

Hi Downlow,
Welcome to the Beyond Blue forums, it's great that you are seeking advice on this. Hopefully we can link you to some other threads with similar experiences.
I think that you can try to keep in regular contact with her, remind her you are there for her and that you love her. Is she getting to see a doctor to treat her conditions? She might be riding a bit of a wave at the moment, perhaps she thinks it is better to withdraw until she feels better. Some times we can't do much to help but we can offer compassion and love, you are doing that, keep it up.
I hope you get some more ideas here soon, talk any time.
Jack

Hello,
You are doing all the right things. I don't think you should give up, she's scared. She thinks that you would be better off being with someone that didn't have the amount of problems that she does.
The best thing for you to do is to keep doing exactly what you're doing. Don't push her to talk to you, just prove to her that you're not going anywhere no matter how hard she tries to push you away. In her mind, she is trying to do what's best for you by pushing you away. She does love you, it might just take her some time to open up about what's going on.
Good luck xx

dear Downlow, hello and welcome aboard.
What happens to someone suffering from any type of depression is that they want push their b/friend or g/friend away and this is for a couple of reasons, firstly they don't want their partner or whatever involved in what is concerning them, they feel alone, and secondly they believe that you would be much better with someone else, but that's not the answer, and I don't believe will be for a certain amount of time, depending on how they are coping.
You have to realise that they want to suffer in silence, all by themselves, and don't understand that there are people out there who want to help them, and as Silverorchid has said it;s never a good idea to keep asking them question after question, that is why do they feel this way, because they will only tell you in their own time, not before and not after, but when they are ready to talk.
You can say that you love her or text her, but not every minute of everyday because it then becomes monotonous and eventually it doesn't register any more, that is it means nothing to them, but it's a lonely life being in depression even though you might have people who love you, so please let us know how she is going, because there will be many questions that come to your mind and don't have any answers, so please ask us. Geoff.
