Getting too worked up

So does anyone here have the feeling that you have stuffed up somehow and get so worked up about it that you worry some much you can’t stop thinking about it. For me I work in food and was doing a lot of packaging and even though I did it the way everyone else did it to an extent and I’m stressing that I did it wrong somehow and now I can’t really stop thinking about it. Cheers for any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Broncies

"Worry is non productive" that's a saying I made up a long time ago.

The best way to rid yourself of any after thought that is negative is to prevent it. As you pack food, any doubt at all communicate with your supervisor and confirm your process is correct.

I hope that helps. Perfection in a job takes time. Eventually you'll get more confidence as time goes by and you'll worry less.

Hey Broncies 18,

Thanks for your post.

Uh - yeah. Totally. Welcome to anxiety club!

Worry has often felt like a serious battle. On one hand you know that you've done it right but on the other hand you can't help but stress something has gone wrong. I can relate to how stressful this can be. Have you ever talked to anyone about your worries?

One thing that I'll share with you is something that I learned in therapy. It's about challenging our thoughts and beliefs. When we say to ourselves 'ah I've done it wrong' - we search for evidence to prove that fact. So as an example if I waved at a friend and they didn't wave back and I thought I'd done something wrong - my brain would scramble for reasons that I have done something wrong. Even if the only reason she didn't wave is because she didn't see me.

My guess is this is exactly what's happening when you're stressing about the packaging - it's not just that you feel like you've done it wrong, your brain is probably scrambling for reasons that you have done it wrong. Does this feel familiar?

So advice - figure out what those reasons are. Identify all the things that make you think you've done something wrong - then have a look at all the reasons why you did it right. So the reasons you did it right might be that you've learned already, or that you've done it heaps of times beforehand, or that you watched them, or that you didn't get negative feedback.

There's obviously sooo much more I could say (I'm all too familiar with worry) but hopefully this is a good starting point. I also know that I'm basically asking you to think about this worry more but the idea behind it is that it changes the way that you think 🙂

Hope this helps,
