Feeling like a spectator in your own life

Hi guys!

I am rather worried about a few things I have noticed over the past few years of my life.

I will be talking to someone sort of on autopilot, and then i’ll have this oddly lucid moment where I realise I am interacting with someone in real life.

It is somewhat hard to explain, but sometimes I feel like I am in a game, hearing pre-written dialogue, then responding to it. When I come out of this state, I fully realise that whatever I am saying/doing has a real-world impact, and that I can’t just go back to the last save and try again if something goes wrong.

Please, if you either have had a similar experience or know what might be causing it, let me know.

Hi DJwoof973,

I'm in no way qualified to give you an answer to your question, but I can at least say that I've had similar experiences! It's often while I'm at work. I suddenly come to a realisation that I'm in the real world and not just dreaming or making up what I see. It's a really strange sensation. It's almost like a physical snap back into reality (not an eminem reference haha). Then I also - very often - have conversations with people, and once it ends, I realise that I have no idea what I just said to them because I was on some sort of auto-pilot.

So I guess you're not alone! Hopefully someone on here has an answer or an idea of what is is.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
It sounds scary. I have been daydreaming then I realise I am talking to some one but I don’t know what I said. This was when I was manic.

maybe have a talk to your GP about how you are feeling if it is worrying you.
